Baby rice / baby porridge

Hi! My little boy has just turned 4 months! Since 3 months he has been DRAINING 8oz bottles. He was always a very hungry baby and has always had a lot more milk than other babies ive known. Recently i really feel 8oz is not doing it for him anymore. He still seems hungry after his bottle and often cries 2-3 hours after eating for more. Even more recently hes started waking back up again at night to eat. He also is so interested everytime i eat my own food. Hes on kendamil formula. I just feel this isnt doing it for him anymore so have been looking into the baby porridge/rice thats available from 4months as i feel this may help with his hunger. I am going to speak to my GP but wanted to know peoples experiences and if they offered these at a similar age? Im not sure about trying 9oz for him as it just seems so much at this age! Thanks!x

It’s ok for babies to want more milk they can’t over feed themselves when women breast feeds on demand baby has as much milk as he wants so I wouldn’t personally offer anything else, weaning at such young age or offering porridge is not safe as babies struggle to digest anything other than milk. Pls google it and you will see the risks

Up his bottles to 9oz

are you pace feeding his bottles? it's very common for babies to eat every 2-3 hours in the first year. the NHS advises only milk until 6 months old, as babies digestive system is not yet developed enough to digest solid food (giving solids earlier can cause issues later on in life such as IBS and diabetes)

Only formula or breastmilk until 6 months unless his pediatrician says otherwise! They shouldn’t be having anything like rice milk or cereal until they can sit up by themselves. It’s better to over feed then underfeed so if he was more just up his bottle by an ounce that’s totally okay. As soon as he starts spitting up that’s when baby is full. So your baby will let you know that way. Just try 9oz for a day and see how he does with it.

9oz of milk is better for his health and digestive system than rice cereal or any form of porridge at this age. Are you pace feeding? This often helps.

Pace feed the bottles. There’s a developmental leap at 4 months resulting in messed up sleep schedule. If I were you id pace feed and then give some small snack bottles instead of huge ones that are spread out x

@Lydia i would love to pace feed him but if he doesn’t get a full bottle (8oz or more) he will just cry 😭. Think i will definitely up his bottles as hes not being sick or anything after. Must just be a hungry hungry boy!🤭

Thank you for all the advice everyone! So much different information out there so always good to hear peoples experiences!x

@Marta pace feeding isn’t taking way the amount of milk ! You have the bottle like sideways and make sure you’re going really slow with feedinG, sometimes tilting so little to no milk is coming out. With breastfeeding the baby has to work for it and pace feeding is mimicking this!

@Lydia oh ok! I will definitely give this a go! Thank you xx

have a look on youtube for guides how to pace feed lovely, it's likely he's just drinking too quickly x
