Writer and Linguist

Malwina Gudowska (she/her) is a Polish-Canadian writer and linguist based in London, UK where she lives with her partner and two young children.

Her writing has appeared in the Financial Times (Both Sides Now), Vogue (Justin Townes Earle and Enough With the Breastfeeding Glamour Shots), The Globe and Mail (A Mother’s Tongue), Literary Hub, and many other publications.

She is currently working on a PhD in Applied Linguistics with a focus on the emotionality of mothers raising multilingual children.

She writes about the parallels of motherhood and language, multilingualism, and caregiving over @meaningofmama and the forthcoming Motherlingual.

Work Experience

Malwina has worked as a writer, editor, copywriter, social media editor, and most recently, linguist.

She began her journalism career in Canada as an associate editor, was the inaugural Alberta editor for FASHION, launched the Calgary edition of VitaminDaily.com (now VitaDaily.ca) and taught magazine writing at the University of Calgary.

After moving to London, she worked as a social media editor for NET-A-PORTER, and for more than a decade, was an editor for Movie Entertainment magazine.

She is currently a contributing editor and contributing linguist for Mother Tongue magazine, a biannual magazine that interrogates and celebrates modern motherhood through stories about art, sex, pop culture, politics, and more.

She regularly consults on multilingualism, family language policy, writing, and editing.

Careers highlights:

Malwina’s article on raising multilingual children won a National Magazine Award and was included in “The Best Canadian Magazine Articles” anthology.

After working on a branding project for a beauty company, she acquired the title of “notable linguist,” courtesy of Vogue.
