Part Time 2 or 3 days?!

Hi all!

I’m not due back until September but am planning on going back part time (really don’t want to go back at all)!

Is it best to go back 2 days or 3 days?!

Also, how do you work out pay for 2 or 3 days- UPS1 and in the fringe (primary school)?

Thank you ❤️

Newborn screening

Eye tests

Has anyone ever had a free eye test through their employer.

I remember getting a voucher a few years ago that I used.

I have read that schools are legally required to do thos due to amount of screen use involved in our jobs but not sure if this was under the Burgandy Book ?

Work & money

why is my school so money grabbing

i’m due practically any day now and my school have just informed my line manager that they’re not hiring anyone for maternity cover until the start of the next school year (september). my classes will just have cover for the next few months then?? what’s even crazier is i have year 13 and 11s with their exams coming up that will just be left hanging? how is this acceptable?? they’ve known since i was 9 weeks pregnant this was coming and they’re either so deeply disorganised they weren’t able to start recruitment in time or they’re hoping to use this time to save money. ridiculous. my poor students ffs. anyone else’s school done this?

Return to work and protected time

Hi,

I am due to return to work on Monday and have been told I'll be teaching straightway. I was under the impression that returning staff were allowed protected time of timetable to catch up and complete necessary admin tasks. An old union rep said it was upto 2 days off.

Does anyone know what NEU says about this?

Returning to work is daunting enough as it is let alone facing a full day.

Thanks

Regret getting pregnant and not doing my PGCE training - advice

Hello everyone. So I work at a college based in the UK. I am due back from mat leave in an education support role. (Been in this role for nearly 10 years now). Going back part time. I was due to start a post 14 teacher training course part time for 2 years and also work full time in the department alongside this. I fell pregnant in September 2024 when the course was due to start, I was aged 35/36 when this happened. We were rolling the dice to see if this happened so was planned. Since having baby, who I love, I have had post natal depression and had a challenging year. I feel like a failure for not pursuing the course. Advice please with this.
