Reading issue - how do I bring this up to his teacher?

Hi all, my son brings home a book to read as homework everyday and he has been on the same band since he started reception.

Recently they seemed to be far too easy for him so I got some of the books online. We have been trying them and he is comfortably 4 bands above at home, 5 at a stretch.

Im a little confused, he’s my first child and I haven’t any experience of how they learn to read at school. I asked one of the other mums to see if the whole class was doing the same books but her little boy is a band above so it’s not that.

What could be happening here? And how should I approach it without sounding like a pushy mother? 🀣🀣

By the way I don’t care what band he’s on or what others are on - I care that this gap in his ability hasn’t been noticed, maybe they haven’t reassessed him?

Advice

Hi, I don’t really know what i want from this post but probably just a rant or some solidarity. My son started school in September, he’s a different child since starting, he uses silly words constantly which is so draining, his listening is really poor, been on the thinking chair at school several times for just being silly (trying to make his friends laugh i think) or just not sitting still or listening. I never would have thought my child would be like this, prior to school, he was the most chilled and easy going child, but he’s just far from that now. The teacher has now introduced a sticker chart for him to try and keep him engaged while sat on the carpet and prevent him from distracting others. I’m just so deflated with him at the moment. Me and his dad feel like we do everything β€˜right’ with him. He has consequences for poor choices and we always follow through with what we say. We’ve also tried being abit more relaxed. Sticker charts at home. Nothing seems to register to him, to try and curb this behaviour. I’m just really struggling to know how to deal with him at the moment

Baby sleep

What time are your 4 year olds going to bed now?

And what time are they actually asleep? My son used to be in bed fast asleep by 7 but there’s no chance of that now so the last few months it’s been 7.30’but he’s just not tired and being an absolute nightmare at bedtimes. It’s now 8.10pm and he’s wide awake. The problem with him as that when he’s tired he’s a completely different child (a horrible one!)

Helmets with scooters

My daughter wants to ride her scooter to school but none of the other kids wear helmets - but I thought helmets were recommended for bikes and scooters?!

Does anyone still put a helmet on their child when scooting to school?
