Starting HRT?

Like anything new, starting to use HRT can feel a bit daunting when we first start out. Especially if you keep seeing people in support groups posting about side effects as things settle down! Please remember, people in support groups do only tend to post when things are not going well, and rarely when there are no niggles or issues 😊 So you *will* see a load of posts about side effects and issues, rarely ones about how people felt better within a week or two and didn't have side effects... Some people *do* experience side effects, and they usually settle down after a couple of months or so if not quicker. If they don't, then they should be raised with your prescriber at your three-month review... We have a factsheet on starting HRT here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gVCl3LhNcF6zDrEht8-x9GuHX4agfSFz/view?usp=sharing Being consistent sticking with the prescribed dose at the correct time, and being patient are probably the two most important ways to help things settle more quickly! Any changes to dose should first be discussed and agreed with your prescriber, and time given for any changes to settle down properly - that's usually around three months! If you need support on starting HRT, please put a post in our group 🙂❤️

Thank u for posting this I am on day 7 of hrt and had slight discharge the other day then yesterday bled a little

I'm starting it .. realy quite nervous but u never know the outcome .. am glad a can talk about things on here x

@Julie I was so nervous but kept telling myself I can’t keep feeling the way I do so what’s to lose!

Ur right u know a can't either x

@hayley hello 🙂 any changes to hormone levels can cause bleeding - and because HRT is a much lower dose and doesn't 'take over' your menstrual cycle like birth control pills can, then sometimes it might take a little time for that to settle... 😊❤️

@Julie hello 😊 which bit makes you feel nervous about starting HRT please? ❤️

Everything about it x

@Julie hmm... so is that including the bit where you're adding protection against future health concerns like osteoporosis and cardiovascular issues? 😊 It's understandable to feel nervous, especially when there's been so much scaremongering about HRT (now debunked and disproven), and misinformation about the risks. It's sad to see so many women suffering because they've believed those falsehoods, and so aren't taking HRT - the most effective way to deal with peri/menopause symptoms. HRT deals with most symptoms for most people most of the time. Plus the benefits outweigh the risks for most people most of the time. The number of people M-brace has helped to get themselves and their lives back shows us this too (we have over 8000 members altogether now). HRT isn't a magic wand, but modern Body-identical HRT is clinically proven to be the lowest risk best bet to improve wellbeing and peri/menopause symptoms... ❤️

...it isn't the only approach, and is most successful when combined with other things - like improving diet, cutting out/reducing stuff like caffeine, sugar, and alcohol, and introducing weight-bearing exercise if that's not already a thing. But in my experience, HRT makes these other things easier to achieve too - who wants to exercise when they're wiped out from depleted hormones? Who feels like cutting out caffeine, when they aren't sleeping? 😊❤️

A suppose everyone must feel anxious about starting hrt x

@Julie, lots are, but I know lots of people who are so relieved to start HRT that they aren't anxious about it at all... I was cock-a-hoop when I started HRT 6½ years ago 😁 It really depends on how you see it too - some see it as "giving in", and it really is not. It's taking control of your wellbeing and making a positive step towards better health *for you*. Not everyone needs HRT, or wants it. But if symptoms are troublesome, and your quality of life is suffering, then HRT is the best way to start addressing that for the majority of people ❤️

Yea it's time for me can't go on like this anymore need too start somewhere x
