Two questions about a membrane sweep

I had a sweep, didn't find it painful just uncomfortable. A bit like a smear test! Had the sweep on the Friday, started losing my mucus plug straight away and went in to labour 2am Wednesday morning. Don't know how much the sweep helped but I definitely think if got something moving 🙏 good luck

I had one Monday (attempted). It’s uncomfortable but I didn’t find it painful, like a smear but not as bad for me. Mine didn’t work but that was because my cervix was too posterior. Trying again Saturday

I didn’t find any of my sweeps painful just super uncomfortable and also awkward, I had a slight pain in my lower back with a cold feeling like when I’m on my period like a 3/10 pain score. After 40 weeks they have a 50% chance of working 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Niki that’s good news , congrats ! 🥰. The reason I ask is that a wee while ago , I got a speculum examination to check if my waters had broke .. and I wasn’t expecting it to be so painful ! It was pretty intense . I’ve had smear tests done , but this was on a different level .. so now it’s got me thinking about the sweep .

I had one yesterday and they couldn’t do it properly as my cervix was still slightly too closed. It’s uncomfortable, i found it slightly painful as it felt like intense period cramps very low down with no build up. It is manageable though! I have another on Tuesday if nothing progresses before I have had some spotting this morning so maybe it was more successful than they thought

I’ve had 2 both unsuccessful got my last one on Monday x

I’m about to have my 4th. So far all 3 have been unsuccessful, I am 3/4cm dilated and been loosing my plug since first one. They are more uncomfortable than painful I’d say, depending on how dilated you are and sounds weird but how long the midwives fingers are😂

How far on are you? I think they work better closer to your due date. Ive had them with my first and ive had one this week with this pregnancy, im 39 weeks today, they feel like get something going but each time its tailed off into nothing. Xx

I feel for all of you ! I can imagine how disappointing it is when it doesn’t work . Frustrating . As far as I know , they are just going to do 1 with me and then induce me if it doesn’t work x

I had one on Wednesday and it was a little painful and uncomfortable but that was because my cervix is posterior and long. She had to go in even further to get to it. I’ve been losing plug gradually and had period like cramps since but almost 48 hours and still no baby. Have another sweep tomorrow. I’m due Sunday. Feeling a little deflated over it as I don’t want to end up being induced x

@Victoria you don’t have to get induced unless you have a medical reason. Your baby will come xx

I had three sweeps, none of them worked & I was 2cm dilated at each sweep. They were quite uncomfortable x

I had my sweep yesterday and for me it was so painful because of who done it but I got a sweep with my first and it didn't hurt so it just depends I think. Good luck

I had one on Monday and it was quite uncomfortable and wasn't successful. I wasn't remotely dilated but my cervix was forward and short Today is also my due date and I had a second one today and it was so much better. 1cm dilated and nowhere near as uncomfortable

I had one on Tuesday and my midwife said I was 1cm dilated already I think you have to be dilated for it to work, and I lost my mucus plug yesterday and started having more tightenings/bareable pains

Don’t think mine will work not even dilated 😔 booked a section for Wednesday if nothing happens before i will be 40+5 then 😔

I’ve had my 3rd attempted sweep today and I’m 40 + 2. She managed to do something and has said she will be very surprised if I make it to the 41 week mark. I’m praying something happens over this weekend because baby is so low that even walking is a struggle😂🙈 I didn’t find it painful, more just uncomfortable!

@Sarah aw no way , I’m sorry ! That’s frustrating for you . Who knows , it could still work ! Your body might start doing what it needs to do itself . I totally get the frustration. I’m expecting not to be dilated when I go to my appointment as baby is still so high up , like I don’t feel that’s she’s come down at all . I also haven’t lost any part of mucus plug or anything . It’s a long waiting game , isn’t it. I have my fingers crossed for you xx

@Sonia I’m same not lost any plug , he’s only 4/5 engaged so still high but I’ve been having pains for days ……obviously just strong braxton hicks 😞 trying not to stress….something might happen 🤞🏻 not getting my hopes up just need to learn to relax and accept what it is but just feeling a bit deflated and must definitely done ……..good luck for your sweep x

I had one today. It was uncomfortable but I wouldn't say painful per se. I was 1 cm dilated. I guess it's just a waiting game now 🤷🏾‍♀️

@Sarah I totally get the deflated feeling . It’s like we spend all this time growing a wee baby , just for them to decide they don’t want to come out lol . He will come for sure , and it could be absolutely out of the blue . Feel free to message me if you need a rant , I really do get how horrible it is when you’re uncomfortable and just need baby to come . And then our bodies almost tease with braxton hicks .. then nothing . That’s what I’m trying to do , just accept . It’s hard though , especially when there’s that part that every time you feel something different , you start to get a bit excited . I’m really hoping I don’t need a sweep , but at this point it’s looking likely I think x

I know we are all kind of in this big waiting game and it’s so frustrating, but how good is it that we can connect with each other and support . This is a good app . I’m glad I started using it 🥰. We will all get there in the end x
