How do you measure if the baby is taking from the boobs?
LC here and they take more from the bottle without paces feeding, it takes 15-20 mins for their stomach to know they’re full, that’s why they spend more trike on the breast early on. Belly size at 24 hrs is 5-7 ml, 2-3 10-20 ml by one week it’s about 30 ml via breast and they cluster meaning eating 8-14 times in 24 hours. When bottles are given and nipple size is not premie they stretch belly quicker and take more down. If you’re pumping about 30-60 mL per session at a week that’s amazing not low, it’s just confusing bc bottles have a different effect. If you’re feeding from breast and supplementing after I would work with a ibclc because they’re trained in breastfeeding, pediatricians traditionally have minimal BF education unless they do it on their own. Also skin to skin during the feed calms their cortisol so they take what they need. Feeding from breast they get hormone flow, bottle does not. First 6 weeks babies are transitioning from constant hormone flow that regulates them to none outside the womb unless you’re skin to skin. They calm easier to latch, fall asleep quickly once fed on breast or bottle with the connection
My newborn just turned 2 weeks today there’s times she drinks 3oz and sometimes 4oz of formula milk every 2-3 hours
General rule of thumb is .75ml per hour for the first week or two I believe. Then after that, 1-1.25oz per hour. (So after 2 hours you can offer baby 2-2.5oz)
6 days old, eating 2-2 1/2 oz every 3 hours.
11 days old taking between 2 to 3.5 oz 2-4 hours of sleep in between
My baby girl is 3 weeks on Thursday and eatin 3-4oz per feed which is roughly 2-4 hours 😆💗💕
My baby boy is 7 days old when I express into a bottle he has 3oz every 2-3 hours but when on breast it’s like every 1.5-2 hours for around 30/40 minutes xxx
My newborn is 11 days old. I was told to feed on demand or every 2-3 hours. Hungry boy will be on the boobs for a good 30 mins with breaks. If I pump, it seems like it doesn't do anything for him at all. From the bottle 2.5 Oz, but then he wants more. I know that tummy is growing for sure.
