I’m so sorry you’re going through this - post like this make me so sad. Colic and reflux is a symptom, not a diagnosis - so many healthcare professionals are quick to “diagnose” reflux but fail to investigate the cause - and there will be one. Sometimes it is allergies, coupled with skin and digestive issue - but more often than not there are feeding issues where air intake is causing reflux and the cause can be tension, feeding positions, and/ or an oral dysfunction such as tongue tie. How does he take feeds? Is his latch good? Has anyone qualified in tongue tie looked in his mouth to rule it out?
@Incognito I’ll definitely look into that! Thank you! He’s started to have little pimple on his forehead so it’s interesting you’ve said that! I just know there’s more too it than reflux! Xx
@Jazmin honestly it breaks my heart! He takes the bottle well but will sometimes stop and stare out then scrunch up like it’s giving him belly ache or when I stop to wind he’ll do the same again. When we were in the hospital after he was born the paediatrician said it doesn’t look like he has younger tie xx
@Melanie does he sleep with his mouth closed and tongue to the roof of his mouth? Are his lips fully flanged around the bottle with no milk seepage? These are all red flags for tongue tie. Unfortunately all paediatricians, HV’s, GP’s and Osteo’s are not trained in tongue tie unless they have had the specific training. If there are these red flags, and you can afford it, I’d highly recommend a private oral assessment, even to rule it out x
I had the same problem. I ignored the hospital advice that it was just wind and colic. He was in too much pain. I went and bought Neocate hypoallergenic formula and he was like a different baby after three days. I’m not suggesting you do the same but that mummy instinct was too strong for me. My little one had similar symptoms including under eye swelling and acne like spots and severe redness. He’s much better now but suffering wind still!
