Gunky eyes?

My almost 5 week old has just from last night developed one really gunky eye. The other side is absolutely fine though. It’s very watery and I have to keep wiping it with warm water every hour. What could this be?

If you have a picture please share. Could be pink eye. If so make sure not to use the rag you’re using in infected eye in the non infected eye. Breast milk in eye could help. If you try that and it doesn’t work you’ll need antibiotics.

My first son has had this and so does my newborn son currently. We asked the pediatrician with my first son and he said it's because the tear duct is either still forming or clogged can't remember which but he said either way it's normal and not to worry about. Just wipe with a warm wash cloth like you're doing.

My son has this and my daughter had it, I’m pretty sure it’s a blocked tear duct. If you just keep wiping with cooled boiled water and a cotton pad, it should clear up (or breast milk). I think there is the possibility they can have it for a while though, up to 6 months loss.

My daughter had that. I boiled some chamomile tea and with a cotton round to clean it. Did that twice a day and it went away within a week or less

It will likely just be a blocked/immature tear duct. Wipe it with cooled boiled water and it will clear up itself. My first's only lasted a week or so but my Dec baby's has gone on a bit longer so far.

@Grace yeh thats fine, my LGs does the same regularly.

@Caz thank you glad it’s nothing bad x
