When to ring your hospital?

Hi ladies! I’m wondering when you all rang your triage/MAC units? I started with contractions probably around 1am, they’re incredibly painful but manageable and last around 25-30 seconds every 20 minutes or so. I’m unsure when to let them know? I’ve hardly slept tonight as everytime I drop off I get one and they’re super intense. I’m unsure if my waters have broke I did have a little gush when on the toilet last night but unsure if it was a wee or waters. With it being my first baby I know he’s not coming anytime soon but am I suppose to let them know I’ve been having these pains? I am due in 4 days so It’s not concerning this is happening.

I’d phone them just to be on the safe side and to make them aware, I’d start a contraction timer on your phone as they will ask you how often they are ect, they may want you in to examine you make sure you’re dilating and if you’re waters have gone Best of luck xx

There’s no harm in ringing if you think your waters have broken!! I was at the LGI and my waters broke and I went in and they tested my urine to see if it was wee or the fluid and then I ended up being induced, but ring them and explain and they may ask you to go in x

Thank you girls! I just timed one and it was 43 seconds, they seem to be abit spontaneous at the minute no following time. I think I’ll ring them just to be on the safe side as I have no clue 😂xx

Phone them absolutely.. they will tell you if they think you should go In xx

@Elle usually with contractions it’s the 511 rule (5 mins apart, 1min long & for 1 hour) before you head to hospital so for others, if you’re close to that I’d call. However, for you, if you think waters have broken then you should definitely call to be seen. When my waters broke, I dilated very quickly and my labour progressed insanely fast 🙈🤣 xx

Eeeek! Keep me updated if you can Elle! Excited for his arrival 😊🩵

Give MAC a call. We’ve flicked between mac at Jimmys and at LGI (presuming you’ll be one of these as your tag says Leeds). They’ve been amazing and just talked me through what to expect. They’d rather you called and got the right advice than wait it out. Good luck!!

I’ve been experiencing the same for the past week and a half. When I went in they kept me in for 6 days, as they did a swab which came back positive for early labour, but still til today no progression and the pains just get worse and worse. Back in hospital rn waiting to be seen by a doctor. Best of luck x

Hi Ellie, I would defo give them a call if you’re unsure, at least they can provide some reassurance and advice over the phone. When I called triage yesterday, they said to look out for 3 contractions within 10 mins. Sorry to hear @Amy I think I’ve had a similar thing to you, had really bad cramps all night last night barely slept at all, thought I was having contractions, called triage and they just said could be pre labour and it may take time to get going so just advised to stay at home with hot bath/pain relief..

Still call!! They will want to check you. At 37+0 this morning I felt a small gush at 4am and then gradually realised it was definitely my waters as they kept coming more and more. Called triage and they wanted me in to check then sent me home. Currently labouring at home. My contractions aren’t as intense maybe a 6/10? But more regular so now I am also in a conundrum as to when to go back - once they reach unbearable?? 😂 good luck to you sounds like baby isn’t far off now.

Thank you everyone, my contractions seem to have stopped since 9am but I’ve lost my mucus plug and has a bloody show. I spoke with MAC and they’re happy for me to stay home unless his movements change or I have 3 in 10 mins .Thank you all it’s been so nerve wracking!!

@Elle ah that’s great, hope you’re feeling a bit better about things 😊. It’s so hard when we just dno what’s going on with our bodies 🙈😅

@Abbie it’s so hard!! I haven’t a clue what to do! I felt sick with panic I could’ve cried😂 it’s so scary xx

Sounds scary @Elle especially having to stay home with painful contractions. Hope it's not too much longer for you.

@Cat they ended up going for a day and have returned tonight but due to his reduced movement I am being induced tomorrow! However the contractions have come back twice as strong now so we shall see if we make it to the induction 🤣

@Elle good luck! I have my induction Friday at 37+1 xx

I’ve been reading up on Prodromal labour and believe this is the closest I’ve found to what I’m experiencing. Maybe have a read if you’re having painful contractions that have a pattern https://www.healthline.com/health/pregnancy/prodromal-labor
