I have under active thyroids and my son wouldn’t latch on and had very low supply. So didn’t end up breast feeding. But my mum had the same issue and wasn’t able to breastfeed all 3 of us. But she has not got any thyroid issues. Not sure if there is a link or not.
I have Addison and hypothyroidism was never able to breastfeed both of my sons low breast milk
I have hypothyroidism and I am currently breastfeeding. Baby is 5 1/2 months If I don’t drink or eat enough I feel “empty” don’t think it’s got anything to do with thyroid (for me) Don’t worry about it because stress lowers milk supply. Think positive thoughts and just take each day as it comes.
@Marie I’m not worried at all, I got frustrated over it last time as no one seemed to believe me that my boobs were empty but I wouldn’t say I was stressed at all. I’m totally ready with formula and bottles this time. I just want to make sure I’m giving him colostrum for the first day or so.
This 100% happened to me. I felt like my boobs got so big and full during my second trimester, but my levels were WAY off during my third trimester and hard to control. I have a total thyroidectomy so permanently diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I told everyone that I felt like my boobs deflated in my third trimester and not a single doctor, nurse, lactation consultant, or my endocrinologist acknowledged it being linked. I had low milk supply and have had to supplement the entire time. The LC said I should have some imaging done on my breast to see if I had a low amount of milk ducts. I never followed up because it didn’t matter. But it’s validating to see this post.
Oh, interesting! Good luck with your research. I can only speak for myself, but it hasn't affected my milk supply with my first. She's a chunk.
