CA State Disability Extension

Has anyone been able to get their state disability extended beyond the 6 or 8 weeks that you get for a vaginal or C-section delivery? If so what did you say? I’ve had some bad PPA & PPD & just don’t feel mentally prepared to go back to work, but I don’t think my dr will extend me for that. Looking for advice.

Look into the cfra if you don’t get the paid family leave extended. If you work for a company over 50 employees you can take a fmla also but fmla isn’t paid

I haven’t been with my company for a year unfortunately so I don’t qualify for CFRA or FMLA

Awe man! Have you worked over 1250 hours?

Not this year😭

I was able to extend 4 weeks. I told my gyno i was having depression. I basically told her what was going on and how i was feeling.

I was able to get 7 months!

@Jacie how?

You definitely should be able to get extended for PPD and PPA. Follow @ themamattorney on IG. You have rights! Don’t be afraid to ask for what you need to take care of you and your baby. It’s cruel what the US does to mothers and babies, ripping them apart at 6 weeks to rejoin the workforce. Best of luck

With my 2nd baby, therapist were months out with an appointment and I asked my OB for an extension. They could only extend a total of 12 weeks, beyond that, it would be on my PCP. At about 8ish weeks I contacted my pcp and talked to her about my ppd/ppa, I told her I was waiting then checked in throughout my time with my therapist. My pcp extended until I was 8 months pp. it really helped me slowly get back into work.

I have kaiser and had to do maternal mental health ppd Dx and take a group to extend 6 weeks

If your employer allows , take Paid Family Leave .. I did for the full 12weeks for bonding time

@Dee were you able to extended it any further past those 6weeks?

@Eliza I wasn’t- not under the mental health need… but if you end up getting the dr to sign off on more for an intense case they may do it. Once I ended the pregnancy disability after those extra 6 weeks I started my PFL through work.
