Maternity exemption certificate

Help, it turns out, my midwife never applied for my Maternity exemption certificate. Im now being chased due to prescriptions I’ve had and said I’m exempt. I have no proof and every medical professional is passing the buck and not helping me?! Does anyone know where I stand or has anyone else had this before? My letter states I’ve got until 23rd to send them proof of exemption before a fine will be issued.

I’d ask your health visitor. It’s not hard for them to create one for you. Literally can be done and with you via email in a minute or two. Your health visitor can message the relevant person for you and get it sorted rather than you having to chase numerous people

@Lorren I’ve just sent my health visitor another message in hope she sorts it. So frustrating I’m having to chase this. Worst of all.. even when it’s done I’m still going to have to pay for the prescriptions I’ve had during pregnancy and shortly after apparently as it can only be backdated one month from today 😫

I had this problem, they couldn’t backdate but I rang the NHSBSA and explained and you have to pay something (can’t remember what it was £57 and was done (really was unfair as midwives should have done form x

@AN..x that’s so unfair, ironically the prescription date on my letter is the date I gave birth!! Will call them tomorrow if I don’t hear back from my health visitor x

@Helen so frustrating that everyone just passes the buck. Thanks for your help. I’ll call them tomorrow if my health visitor doesn’t come back to me by then x

This exact thing happened to me! The midwives tried to send me a new one with the old dates on but the system they use to generate it kept putting new dates on (which they couldn't override), and so the NHS system (from the department who sent the letter about it) couldn't accept. That office apologised but said they couldn't override the system without a valid certificate with current dates (ludicrous) which I couldn't get. My midwife said she would happily email them to explain but it wouldn't make a difference as the system couldn't be altered to accept it. They did waive the fine but not the prescription costs so I just paid the £20 prescription cost to get it sorted. Absolutely ridiculous I know. I do now have an exemption cert which lasts til Jan which I'm using for any prescriptions so should get my money's worth back.

I had this exact same problem, I ended up having to pay for the prescription not the penalty fine. Was doing my head in as I was at home with a newborn and could have been dealing without it. I ended up calling my local maternity unit and they emailed one to me. I left a message for my health visitor who contacted my specific midwife who never replied x

Which reminds me I think I could pay the prescription as of yesterday so thank you x

I’ve got the same!
