Genetic tests to confirm identical?

Just found out I'm expecting twins. The babies have separate placentas and sacs, but the docs only saw one egg implantation (corpus luteum) so they're pretty sure the twins are identical but split early. Should I expect to have access to genetic testing to confirm identical vs fraternal when they're born? Is that covered or standard? Obviously I could get testing myself but I'm wondering if it's something my doc would/could order to confirm. I'm in Ontario Canada

Idk how it works in Canada but I had genetic testing done at 9w pregnant by just a blood draw which is offered to all pregnant women here to my knowledge, which looked at each twins DNA and confirmed my twins were fraternal

Do they share a placenta? It appears so based on the photo. Also the membrane between them is very thin. This to me looks like mono di twins

@Maja the doc said 2 placentas, 2 amniotic sacs, 1 corpus luteum. They figure they're identical twins that split early enough to have their own placenta/sacs, but weren't quite certain. It's also possible they missed a second CL.

Hi @Brittany , how soon did you find out you were having twins? Congratulations! 🎉

@Simone we found out at our 12 week ultrasound (didn't have one before that). They look more like babies in the other photos lol

@Brittany the only reason why I asked is I lost twins in 2022. This pregnancy they're saying they found another gestational sac but I'm 9wks and we still haven't seen the other twin if it's there. So I'm wondering if it's a case of "disappearing twin" or he's just hiding. The doctor said I have until 20wks to confirm if it's a twin I'm having this pregnancy again or not. I'm hoping it will be our 🌈 👶🏾🌈👶🏾

@Simone both of ours had strong heartbeats and were moving. We also had a loss of a single pregnancy in December. Sorry to hear you went through it with twins. I get what that fear is like.
