As a regular thing I wouldn't as it's very salty but every now and then I'd say it's fine! Eggs in the UK are safe to eat raw if lion stamped anyway so I wouldn't worry about the eggs. It's the salt!
@Vicky that’s interesting as I have the annabel karmel weaning book and she has Parmesan in a lot of her recipes
@Seema this is what I mean! So much conflicting evidence about it. I found a BLW recipe that says 6+ months for carbonara but then other places say no. Like this BLW isn’t confusing enough🤣
One of our lgs fave meals! Just pull some pasta out and mix in less egg/parm mixture you can loosen it with a bit of milk. 😊
There is egg in carbonara?
@Jolou brilliant thank you! I have just had a look and the pancetta has more salt than the cheese so really don’t understand why everywhere is saying about the cheese😂
@Shay yes in fresh carbonara.
I think it depends how you make it - proper carbonara with giancale/pancetta and Parmesan is likely to be far too salty for babies as a regular meal (although a taste here and there would be fine!) but I guess if you did a veggie version with mushrooms or other veg, and less Parmesan/a different less salty cheese then that would be better? My husband makes amazing carbonara but I think we’ll hold off on sharing for now, I like a loooot of Parmesan with mine 😂
@Tamara omg our lg loves it! I just make hers less strong and I am ok with that 🤷🏼♀️ Tbh I use 1 egg,2 egg yolks and 1/2 cup parm for enough for 4 portions so one toddler portion is ok in my book once every other week. Just make sure you have less salty foods that day xx
@Jasmine lol you learn something new every day 😂. I haven’t had carbonara since I was a little kid, most likely less than 5 times in my life and I’m sure none was freshly made 🤣
@Shay I normally just buy the ones that go in the microwave😂😂😂
If you’re not sure, leave the Parmesan out. Babies’ kidneys can’t process salt like ours.
Of course! Just balance meals if youre concerned about salt xx
I think it’s only recommended for 1y+ because of its really high sodium content, but I’m sure having a little before then (assuming low salt foods the rest of the time) won’t matter! I would have given it to my 8mo 😌
