@Fay I’m happy to pay if necessary! How did you ask them? Would I just ring up? 🙏
Yeah I just rang reception and I was able to go in that evening to pick it up x
@Fay thank you so much I’ll give them a ring on Monday! X
I flew out at 27 weeks and fly home at 28 weeks I just told my midwife I was going on holiday and would it be okay and she said yes and booked me for an appointment to see her the week I was leaving and gave me a fit to fly letter I guess every midwife is different as I’ve heard that others have been difficult with it too x
@Nicole I’ll be 30 weeks when I go and TUI says you need one to fly from 28 weeks. I’ll try my GP cos the midwife says she can’t provide one x
My midwife said they aren’t insured to do them and because the GP doesn’t do any antenatal care they won’t do it either so I have to go private 🙄
@Aisling yeah my midwife says she just doesn’t have the time to do it 🫠 I’m going to try GP on Monday if not I’ll go private. I’ve had a look online for private it’s hard to see what looks legit, have you found any private ones? Xx
I fly tomorrow at 30 weeks, my gp was going to do it for me but luckily I had an app with consultant yesterday and she signed it for me
I’m going away on Sunday at 29 weeks and returning at 30 weeks. Seeing my midwife today to get the fit to fly letter x
@Stacey which consultant?
@Claudia hopefully your midwife will do yours. Mine said no x
I had to go for a growth scan for my baby, so the consultant doing that signed it for me. X
Call doctors and they will sort it for you, but has to be done privately. I paid £30 for mine. I was 26 weeks but needed the letter for my travel insurance to be valid xx
@Alex thank you I’ll do this on Monday. I also need to sort travel insurance. Did you have to declare pregnancy because of risks? As everytime I’ve checked it says you don’t unless complications x

I think each travel insurance is different annoyingly.. is best to call up the travel insurance and ask. When I called they just said for it to be valid I needed a letter For it. I’m low risk pregnancy. I know a lot of people don’t bother tbh but I just needed the piece of mind so done it 😅 xxx
I am 29 weeks and currently in Thailand, had no problems with the airlines, just had to sign a document for them!
@Alex yeah I definitely want it for peace of mind, I don’t want to get to the airport and be told I can’t fly 🤣🤣 I’m measuring big as well so knowing my luck they’ll be like nope! Xx
@Tyler ah that’s good! Xx
Do all travel companies require this? We go on holiday on May 23rd and I will be 24 weeks.
@DeeDee I think it’s just after 28 weeks but each airline may differ. Definitely worth looking into just incase xx
@Tyler every airline has different conditions
I'm flying tomorrow with Ryanair. My GP and midwife both said they couldn't do it so I had to go to my consultant at the hospital and he signed it and put the hospital stamp on..hoping it's accepted tomorrow 🙈😂 I'm 30 weeks. I went for admiral travel insurance which specified you don't need to declare pregnancy unless there is complications such as gestation diabetes, preeclampsia ect...
@Maria hope it works for you! Its strange how difficult it seems to get one sorted!
I got a fit to fly letter this week from my GP. Had to pay £30 for the privilege
I am going away at 27 weeks and again at 29 weeks for two different weekends away that’s been pre booked for ages. My midwife literally just wrote a letter with subject heading ‘fit to fly’ confirming how many weeks and that my pregnancy is progressing without complications. Is this literally all you need?? Or do you need to check what’s needed from certain airlines? Anyone know? First time mum to be, it’s a minefield out there 😅
@Lizzy if check with individual airlines as it differs! X
@Jade Williams I’m happy to pay if needs be as I’m just panicking now that I’m not gonna get something sorted! X
I just came back from holidays I am 31 weeks. When they ask I just said I am 20 weeks pregnant. My GP refused fit to fly as they said it's only for high risk pregnancies
@Lois I've just boarded and nobody has asked how far I am or to see the letter

@Maria that’s lucky! I’m flying with TUI so it might be different x
I’m away at the moment at 28 weeks - had a stress about this before I flew. GP said for midwife to do, midwife said she couldn’t do it. I paid and got a private doctor to do it online via zoomdoc - you have to send them your antenatal notes and a video talking about how your pregnancy is going. GMC registered doctor does it usually same day. But does cost £45. But saved the stress. And then they never even asked for it on boarding the plane 😂I also rang insure and go to make sure they knew about the pregnancy and the fact I’m anaemic etc.
I’m just back as I was 28weeks at the time, I had a bother from gp saying they didn’t do it, had a hospital appointment just before so got it then, that being said, no one asked to see going both out and coming back
@Connie who did you fly with? TUI have asked that I provide their customer services with a fit to fly letter beforehand and have one with me when I fly 🫠
I flew with Ryanair on Saturday and didn’t get asked for any documents. In 31 weeks preg but might get asked on the way back x
@Lois appologies should have added context to that, I was with Jet 2, I emailed them prior and they said to provide the fit to fly just in case, their airline explained that as long as I wasn’t high risk, or over 32-36 weeks (32 for twins), then it was fine, if I was over this I wouldn’t have been fit to fly but I was told all airlines were different, if you don’t think it’s worth the risk then contact your midwife and she might be able to get you a fit to fly appointment by a doctor at the hospital, I explained my gp refused, it did cost me £30, I certainly kept being told different things by different professionals but explained my frustrations of this to my midwife which in turn led her to get that appointment made at the hospital with my blood test.
@Connie glad you got sorted. I’ve just rang my doctors to ask my gp to do it as my midwife said she didn’t when I’ve asked her and then it turns out that she’s going to do it after all once the receptionist spoke to her. I’d rather have it than not cos you never know! Xx
Interested to know how this went in the end for you? I’m flying tomorrow with TUI, I have a letter from my doctor but it doesn’t specifically say I’m “fit to fly” it just says how many weeks I am and that the pregnancy is progressing smoothly. Is this enough?
@Ellie Mc I don’t see why not. I wasn’t asked for it at all flying out, however at Heraklion Airport I was asked 3 times for it. My letter literally just had my name, address and midwives signature on saying that I was fine to fly. So I’m sure yours will be fine! Xx
My GP does them but had to pay like £20!
