When to start buying baby stuff

Good morning I’m curious when is it the best time to buy baby things?

Whenever you like, it can be helpful to start early and spread the cost.

Yes I agree with charley but keep track of what your buying because I was getting repetitive on what I was buying like baby clothes but I brought my big ticket items 7 weeks before I’m due like stroller car seats etc

With my first I started at 16 weeks after I found out the gender as I wanted everything blue or pink depending! As the comments above said I’d write a list of everything you need and tick them off as you go along- it helps with spreading the cost and saves on the last minute cramming I’m currently doing @ 37 weeks now with my second 😅. Whenever you feel comfortable also as I know some people like to wait until they are further along x

Definitely get an idea of what you want, research and test things out in store as soon as possible. You can then keep an eye out for sales, discounts or second hand or spread the cost. Places like Mamas and Papas let you reserve and pay over time then collect or have delivered closer to your due date so its not taking up space (just make sure if you do that with M&P they don't put it down as collected when you order especially if it's a limited run item - they did that with the carrycot part when we bought our buggy and by the time I noticed it was no longer available, they offered a different colour but that meant our carrycot didn't match the pushchair) I decided I wanted a SnuzPod and Joie ispin safe before ttc and picked up a second hand SnuzPod on FB for about £20 the same week I found out I was pregnant (unfortunately ended in miscarriage so I ended up having the crib for just over a year before my LG arrived) and got the car seat at The Baby Show as I knew there would be Show discounts.

I started around 6 weeks with things that could be for either gender like the swing and bassinet. It’s easier for me to break up the cost

Write down a checklist for baby stuff and I'd suggest starting as early as you can so that ur as fully ready as you can be by the end of ur pregnancy as baby stuff is not cheep at all ull want to split the costs of everything as you go along and there definitely will be bit that you won't think of until someone or something mentions it to you and pregnancy stuff like the pillows and support bands aren't cheep either and depending on how ur pregnancy goes depends on how many pregnancy stuff ull want to/need to try out like anti sickness stuff and that ud be surprised how much u spend money wise when pregnant no to mention at some point in ur pregnancy ull suddenly thing of different home improvements that you'll feel u need before the baby comes witch again probably won't be cheep so the earlier you start getting stuff the better also I'd suggest looking into the maternity grant and extra money you could get while pregnant as it's not advertised or told to you most of the time x

It’s never to early and best to be organised earlier rather then later I made that mistake haha x

Being prepared makes you feel relaxed I recommend buying a few things you really want/if you are eager and then if you are having a baby shower wait until after your shower to get the rest! This will save you soo much money 🫶🏼

I didn’t buy any big things until after my 20 week scan, up until then bought some neutral clothes, bottles etc

I started after my 20 week scan

I bought a few bits at the very beginning because I was so excited! I got clothes at around 4/5 months when I found out the gender and I bought the big things like cots, pushchairs etc at about 7/8 months

We got a couple of grows after our first scan and the odd cuddly toy, went and got the furniture and pram after the 20 week scan and was up and put together by 27 weeks, i pretty much had everything ready to go from 30 weeks as I knew I would be knackered for the last 10! 😂

i had the nursery decorated and everything bought and put up by 25 weeks and now i’m 35 weeks and so thankful because i have no energy

When I found out I started with random things I found on sale, then at 12 weeks I bought the pram and next to me crib on a payment plan. From about 16 weeks I just picked up a few bits like clothes, toiletries and bedding whenever I was out. It’s so much easier and less stressful spreading the cost than getting everything all at once.

I started as soon as i was 12 weeks x

I think it depends on your personality. Some people choose to buy things as soon as possible. In my case, I found it stressful to have to think about that at the beginning and I bought most of the basics in the third trimester when it felt more real and I felt more ready (and I knew better what I might need) . In any case, my friends with children all advised me to not buy too much because you never know what you will like or use until baby is there. I only bought car seat/pram, cosleeping crib (which I ended up not using) and baby bathtub. Then a few clothes for the first weeks and nappies. It was more than enough.

Thank you all 💜

I started early, at 12 weeks I got a next to me crib (everything I got was second hand and free so I would jump at the opportunities to get bits.) get stuff when it feels right for you ☺️

Whenever, I honestly got a couple things like pacifiers and I think I got socks or something at like 16w 😂

If you’re having a baby shower I’d wait until after that to gage what you’ll need. Our relatives with our first son bought so much we really didn’t need to buy much

Thank you. X

Make an Amazon registry or a baby list and wait for your shower. Mine was on Saturday and the only things I need now are an electric pump (I wfh so I can’t exactly manual pump when it comes time), car seat, and a high chair.

We started creating an Amazon wishlist for our 30week baby shower. Then started buying lots after then :)

After the anatomy scan

Start storing water wipes and nappies.
