A banana for dinner…

I’m really embarrassed but like some others that have posted on here I’m not much of a cook and atm I am relying on food pouches here and there but my son doesn’t really like them. After a few spoonfuls of pouch food, he started to reject the pouch today I just gave him a banana and he gobbled it up and I felt so bad that he’s been hungry! I don’t have many ideas of food choices and I don’t even know what is acceptable at this point. Is a whole banana okay for a dinner or is that considered a snack?

I think a whole banana is fine, he won't be hungry if topped up on milkies 😊 he would definitely be letting you know if he was! I've bought some dinner pouches that he's not a fan of but I won't chuck them so I've started mixing some of the fruit pouch in with the savoury and he will eat it up then Other easy foods for me are ... A slice of toast, a fruit platter, one egg whisked with some grated cheese and microwaved for one min, and those porridge powders are great, I mixed in some fresh fruit like raspberry 😊 My friend told me at this age they don't actually absorb that much goodness from the food, it's more about teaching them to eat and getting them used to different flavours 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've found What Mummy Makes & WeanIn15 really good for ideas, I got them second hand from Vinted. I've also been making some really basic food and blitzing it. Then I pop it into small tupperware and freeze it. So my LG has had pureed/mashed: • Salmon, pesto & pasta • Salmon, peas & potato • Cottage Pie (courtesy of Nanna) • Spag Bol Plus any random veggies which I just chuck into the oven to roast and then blend them with some water. Breakfast is porridge oatmeal, warm whole milk and whatever fruit I happen to have. Lunches have been a handful of cheese, cucumber sticks, omelette fingers, courgette fritters (honestly so so easy), greek yoghurt with a bit of fruit puree from a pouch or mashed banana. Try not to overthink it and do what you can. At this stage, it's about having fun with it and just introducing tastes and textures.

Peanut butter on toast Banana on toast Avocado on toast Pasta spirals with a simple sauce (veg puree pouch would work as a sauce). These are all my go to super quick and easy dinners. I also use the pouches when I can't be bothered to cook.

Sweet potato cut in to fingers and boiled/steamed is also good to offer alongside a pouch of food.

My mums friend is a food scientist and always said a banana has everything in it a meal needs - I think as long as you offer other things and try him with a variety if he only eats a whole banana he is doing OK.

Same here - have zero time and a very very clingy baby so I use pouches a lot. He loves toast so I sometimes give that with unsalted butter or avacado. I will try with houmous soon. Banana is fine but I read should only offer half as its high in potassium. Not sure though - my boy loves it! I also give oranges sliced up which he loves. Boiled pasta, porridge from a pouch that you add water to x

Baby can eat what you eat, as long as it's not got added salt or sugar. You don't need to cook separate meals, just make a little extra of yours.
