Spoke to different gps etc who say it is “mild” and “Will get better with time.” She is nearly 5 months so starting to sit up etc but wanted to know anyones experience at 5 months. Any tips ? Any ideas ?? Any helmet stories?!! Or self correction xx Please help as I’m losing sleep over it all. Thank you in advance xxxx

We noticed at 4 months that a little flatness we'd been keeping an eye on had gotten quite bad and his ear had moved forward so we started looking into a helmet Once we decided on a company it was 2 weeks from the initial assessment to get it, so he was almost 5 months when we got it 6 weeks later his head already looks so good that I'm having debates with my partner about whether we should keep it on 😆 I'm so glad we got it, it took the stress out of whether his head would correct and has sped it up so much Only negative for me has been a possible impact on sleep. It's hard to say if it was caused by the helmet or not with all other kinds of things going on but we have had a tough time of it since he started wearing it. Daytime he has always been absolutely fine wearing it though

@Georgina hi hun, which company did you use? And how did you decide to go for it? My LB is 4 months, he has a little flatness on the back left but it’s his right ear that I’m most concerned about, it’s now 1cm further forward than his left and I’m thinking of doing a helmet now rather than waiting to see if things change, I don’t want it to get any worse and repositioning constantly is a nightmare, he’s getting pretty annoyed with me now allowing him to try and roll left x

@Shenel I think it's worth doing if you can afford it. NHS says it'll self-correct but they also say it'll likely never be perfect again. I did it because I wanted the highest chance of his head being perfect again - it's not important to them but it will be important to him I went with LOC (London Orthotic Consultancy) because their helmet is light so I thought more comfortable for him. They're in Kingston, London. Keep in mind you'll have to be there every couple of weeks at least for reviews, so one near home is good if available Ahead4Babies told me they could get it covered by insurance though so they may also be worth speaking with

@Georgina thanks for replying. I’ve got an appointment with LOC in two weeks, there’s one near me in Essex luckily. Has your little ones ear corrected now? How long was he in the helmet for? And can I ask what his measurements were? x

@Shenel he started at 15mm asymmetry which they class as severe. we're almost 4 months in and he's at 6mm, but it would have been a lot better except for a bunch of personal issues we've had which have meant it's not been on properly the last 2 months his ear started much worse than your baby's 1cm, probably nearer 3cm 😐 it's much better now. of course with 6mm asymmetry still it still has a way to go!

when I have asked about it they've always been more hesitant to promise the ear would fully correct though. it's more difficult than the skull it seems 😕

@Georgina oh I’m sorry, I hope you’re ok. Sounds like great progress for your little one, tbh if I knew it wouldn’t get worse I wouldn’t bother as I don’t think it will be noticeable once he has hair, but repositioning him all the time isn’t sustainable and he’s 17lbs already so I’m now in quite a bit of pain carrying him around all the time. He learnt to roll last week and I thought that would help but now he’s forgotten how to do it 🙈
