Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix i-Size Carseat

Hi ladies, Does anyone have the Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix i-Size and use it without the base in their car? If you do have the base as well, do you find it makes it much more stable? We bought this car seat as an “in case of emergency” since it’s supposed to work without needing a base and we don’t have a car. Since we are planning to do some traveling soon, we took out a Mobility car to practice setting up the seat. I felt like it was really wiggly (side to side) just installing with the seat belt, despite Maxi-Cosi saying that the base isn’t essential. I’m not sure whether we’re doing it wrong and want to be sure our baby is safe. Anyone have experience with this? Is there anywhere we would be able to go to get the install checked out? Back home, the police and fire stations offer a service for checking car seat safety, but I’m not sure if this is offered here. Thanks in advance!

Have you seen whether there’s a YouTube video on how to install with the seatbelt?

Ciao Jeanette! I have it and had been using it with both the isofix base and not. Of course with the base is much more stable and comfy (as you only click it in) but in one of the cars l didn't have the isofix so used it backwards with the seatbelts. My only suggestion is to really tight as much as possible them and readjust when baby is on it. It didn't look so unstable to me once baby was on it!

@Sophie yes, I followed the official Maxi-Cosi installation video, but they don’t show how to check that it’s secure. 😅

@Ale thanks for sharing your experience! We didn’t put the baby in when we tried installing since we weren’t comfortable driving with him in it the way it looked and also didn’t want to set him off crying by putting him into the seat when not going out. 😅 We’ll have to see how that looks in comparison! From the way the seatbelt secured the seat, it seems like we actually have to have our baby already in the chair before securing. Was that your experience the time you traveled without the base or were you able to set up the chair then put your baby in?

Yes in both cases it's much easier first you put the child in the seat, tight the "ropes" and then you install it with the seatbelt (or in the base). We tried sometimes by First putting the car seat and then sliding her in but it got even more difficult to adjust it In a good way
