@Abbie thank you that is really helpful. Do you know about the copper coil? Someone told me it's way more painful?
Whilst being fitted you can have pain relief (if you GP doesn’t offer this, look elsewhere!) and the fitting is very quick usually. Try MSI Reproductive choices if your GP isn’t helping- they do all contraception and offer pain relief for coil fitting. The copper coil can make periods heavier and more painful, particularly in the first 6months of having it in, whilst your system gets used to it. You would get your periods as normal but some people find they get spotting/bleeding in between. Depending on the brand, these can last 5-10years. The hormonal coil tends to lighten/stop periods but again in the first 6 months can be a bit more unpredictable. The hormones from this stay in the uterus, so only a very small amount is found in your bloodstream unlike other hormonal contraception. This makes it less likely to have hormonal side effects. Depending on the brand, these can last 3-8years.
@Abbie this is so helpful thank you very much
I’m a coil fitter and it’s not official advice at all, there’s no reason you cannot have a coil with previous ectopic. The chances of it failing are very low, so the benefits outweigh the risks on this one. Hope that helps xx
