Driving test !!??

Failed my driving test and was just ready to rebook it and take it again Didn’t realise I have to wait SIX months!!! WTF is this normal?! It’s not Covid anymore what’s going on? Has it always been like this? So every time you fail you have to wait 6 months each time?! Is that right?

I thought it was a minimum of a 10 day wait per test? I know the waiting periods even in London is months away for a test x

You have to check every Monday at 6am for when they release new dates/times and cancellations in order to rebook a new date sooner. Otherwise yea, 6 months is the norm because driving instructors are so highly in demand, my instructor was telling me how he has an 18m long wait list for people wanting lessons with him 😳 Also examiners cannot cope with the backlog of people wanting to take their test that cancellations are rife. You may also want to look at choosing a different area close to where you are if you find your local centre is not showing cancellations.

@Neena I can’t book another test centre because I’ve spent the last few months studying the test routes for my local test centre and spent a lot of money. If I choose another test centre I’ll have to study/ practise the new routes. I don’t understand why they have to post it Mondays? I thought the dates on gov.uk were live? like people cancelling anytime and as soon as they cancel someone else can book. so they just withhold until each Monday?

@Aimee 10 days??

You legally have to wait 10 days between tests. I'm in the same boat. Its awful. Get the app called testi and keep an eye on the portal. Its open 6AM till 11:40PM and its super cut throat right now with school leavers wanting to pass before results days and uni. I'm 32 and it's so stressful now. It shouldn't be this long but thanks to poor recruitment and strikes off the back of covid it's only getting worse. We need more examiners :/

^ what @Hannah said, legally 10 days between tests - but ultimately the wait everywhere is months at the moment x

Incog they’re meant to, however in reality, any dates that are “released” during the day are literally snapped up in milliseconds due to bots and apps buying them up to resell to desperate people. I can remember back in 2021/22, you couldn’t even book a date for 6m time you just had to buy a date through a re-seller app, shit was crazy! And they were charging £200+ for each test date! My instructor told me 6am Monday, I followed his word and sure enough have managed to book mine for 6 weeks time. Also you shouldn’t be studying routes solely to pass, you should be competent and confident enough to drive anywhere on any road hence it doesn’t matter where you take a test. Which test centre are you looking for?

@Neena thanks so much I literally had no idea about all this it’s soo confusing! And I am THAT desperate person so please if you can help me get an earlier date 😂😭 My local test centre is Bolton (Manchester) Is your test in 6 weeks? Mines currently booked for October and my theory expires in November 🫤 so I’m basically desperate at this point haha I’m sure I’ll pass this time because the first time I was super nervous was literally shaking and failed on something stupid

@Neena you mentioned those apps and bots etc I’ve heard of them but thought they were just money making scams. Do they work? Is it worth the money?
