What’s the carrier screen if you don’t mind me asking?

Another part of the genetic testing where they test me for like 157 diseases to see if I carry the gene for it. It only matters if both me and my husband have it. But it’s still scary. !!

@Molly oh gotcha! Is that something separate they offer or does it go along with the NIPT testing?

Yes! W/ my first daughter we found out I’m a carrier for Cystic Fibrosis but my husband is not so my daughter is potentially also a carrier of the trait but not for sure.

@Chasey it's two different tests (although you can have your blood drawn once for both). One tests the baby's DNA and one tests your DNA. For me, it was two different $ amounts

@Alyssa when I was pregnant with my first I did the NIPT and it cost $100. Would you be willing to share how much the other addtl testing cost?

@Lyndsey for me, the NIPT testing for the baby is $250 and the genetic testing for me is $100. But I think it depends on your insurance

@Molly Same here I did the extended genetics testing that did over 400 diseases. I tested for 6 of them but 1 came back 50% chance if I have another boy he'll have it. I have to meet with a genetics counselor soon.

Yes, I was a carrier for one of the diseases (something rare) and then my husband was tested for just that disease. Fortunately he wasn’t a carrier for it.
