Child maintenance

My (soon to be ex) husband earns between 700-£950 after tax a week. According to the benefit calculator online he would be eligible to pay me around £109 a week in maintenance I do anticipate he might want to pay more than this. Maybe more like £200-300 a week. Does anyone know if this would impact universal credit?

@Michelle its really confusing as they told me they wouldn't take into account. But I did ask as I thought the same as you

Feels impossible to get a straight answer

You need to declare it but it won't affect anything with UC. It isn't income.

If you claim council tax support then it will likely affect that.

i had the same problem. the government website states chimd maintenance isnt classed as extra income and will not affect your payments xx

Thank you all. X

It isn’t classed as income but more of child support from the spouse so it shouldn’t effect your UC. However, give them a ring and check or pop it in your journal for your work coach😊

My friends universal credit wasn’t affected by child maintenance.

You declare it but they don’t take it into account if it is paid as child maintenance

Child maintenance does not affect uc. I'm on uc and get it and asked them and they said it doesn't effect x

@katie thank you. Yeah they told me that aswell. I just wondered if they was a cap of child maintenance they would allow. If he just sends me it instead of going through CMA. X
