Maternity pay

Has anyone had an issue with maternity pay resolved by their employer? My company maternity policy is up to 18 weeks full pay and 21 weeks at SMP. Which is what I have based my finances on... I got paid before I went onto maternity and had lost £400 from my wages because they have worked it out pro rota. I emailed HR and asked for an explanation, to which she just sent my maternity pay schedule (which I didn't full understand tbh) which says my entitlement is 6 weeks at 90% and 33 weeks at SMP 🤯 I meet all the criteria for the enhanced maternity pay and cannot understand what they have possibly done. I have emailed the head of HR at our location, as well as the head of HR for the UK, cc'd our union into it, this was on the 14th June and have still had no reply. I'm hoping it's just an easy fix, but the fact I've had no response for 2 weeks is making me worry. Has anyone experienced anything similar and had it resolved? I'm due this week and starting to stress that I haven't saved enough money for baby now.

I'm not sure if this is the case but I've seen a company contract that states "up to" - for the employee, it looks really good as its enhanced. But it's at the company's discretion if they'll actually pay that unfortunately.

I would email again, or send a follow-up just saying ‘I need clarity on the above asap as I’m due to start maternity leave in X amount of days and this is causing me undue stress’ - they really need to sort it out, it’s very unfair at this late stage in pregnancy! When you sent your MATB1 did they not do a meeting that laid out your entitlement and do your risk assessment?

I work in HR and happy to review your policy/ contract and help draft an email if helpful
