I was positive as well—mainly it (typically) means going to the hospital earlier if that’s your preference / in your birth plan so you can receive a prophylactic antibiotic as there’s some risk of the baby being colonized and infected leading to severe illness (colonized without infection is a possibility, in which case the baby is fine) Caveat that I’d defer to your medical provider, but I’ll share how my husband and I thought about this for our baby!

Paraphrasing from convos with my OB and doula, I went into my birth with the below framework: - If water breaks + no contractions start right away, rest for a bit, eat if you can, shower, start prepping to come in to the hospital and see if labor kicks in - if water breaks + early labor contractions starting, ok to wait up to 6 hours before coming in - if labor starts spontaneously, we would likely stick to the original plan of laboring at home as long as we can

As with any antibiotic, there’s some risk of it killing off good bacteria too, impacting the baby’s microbiome. So again, I’d ask your provider for help understanding the risk and to evaluate what you’re comfortable with. Here’s a video from the doula whose online birth course I took—hope it helps! https://youtu.be/D15xxrmSjrw?si=WY0ujPe02YtXjU99

@Sam Thank You I’m going for a VBAC will it affect it 😭😭😭🥺

Ah sorry I should have clarified that the advice I was paraphrasing from my providers was for a vaginal delivery! So yes I think the bacteria can be spread specifically during vaginal delivery. I’d confirm with your provider for any nuances with VBAC. Good luck and wishing you a safe, healthy delivery!
