SHARED PARENTAL LEAVE

Me and my partner have decided to take shared parental leave as we’re both eligible. I’m going to take 9 months off, and my partner is going to take 3 months off. Hes going to take a month off at the start so we’re together and then the remaining two months once I’ve finished my 9 months and back at work. His work pay occupational paternity pay for up to six months so he’ll get his 3 months paid by work in full. Has anyone else done something similar?

If he gets paid 6 months pat leave, why do you need to do shared parental? Couldn’t you be off longer then? Or have I misunderstood??

I'm planning to do 9 months and my partner 3. He doesn't get any paternity leave beyond the statutory 2 weeks so the only way to do it is shared parental leave. Check how the money works as my understanding is with shared, he takes on your pay terms.

I don't think you need to do shared parental leave, as that normally means you give some of your leave and pay or no pay to him. But if he gets paid 6 months I think that's what he should take and then you take 9/12 months as he wouldnt be taking your money or leave entitlement.... We did shared because I gave my husband 4 weeks of my leave with no pay so he could have a total of 6 weeks off with me at the start

We are doing shared leave as I’m self employed My OH is a civil servant and is taking 6 months full pay (on his own wage) plus one months holiday And I’ll go back to work ! Its the only way we can afford to do it
