Child benefit Q's

Hi all - my partner makes over 60k whilst I make under that. I know we can claim for Child Benefit but will need to pay the tax charge as one of us earns over 60k. Anyone know if it's possible for me to claim the benefit to get the NI continuity whilst my partner pays the charge?

Yes that's fine. Your partner will need to register for self assessment and complete a tax return. You can also opt to claim without being paid the benefit if your partner earns over the upper threshold 80k If you need any further info feel free to message me

Yes, that's how it works, it doesn't matter who puts the claim in. I put my claim in and opted out of getting the money because of my husbands salary.

Brilliant thanks both!!

We’re the same. A friend recommended getting the benefit, putting it into a savings account with a good interest rate and then paying back what you owe at the end of the year when doing tax return. That way you actually get something (even if only a little) when you’re on the higher tax rate
