Working/child tax credit

Just wondering if anyone can help as I’m so confused. Currently on UC but go back to work this week, and was planning on still claiming UC on the side but my mums just mentioned about working tax credit and child tax credit. I’ve tried google but non of it makes any sense, does anyone know what’s best to apply for? Or should I just keep on UC?

You can’t apply for WTC/CTC anymore, it’s being closed down and moved to UC. Make sure to claim your childcare costs through UC though x

@Kiera Ahh okay brill, thank you so much! And yeah I’m hoping they’ll cover some of the cost because it’s so bloody expensive 🤦🏼‍♀️😂x

@Olivia they cover up to 85% as long as it’s not stupid money and only up to 800 I think. So if you’re only working 15 hours but nursery is not equal to that (£1.5k) they’ll be suspicious xx

Working tax credits pay for the 20% towards your childcare costs, this is paid for through the government website. I don't know if you can claim UC and the tax credits tho....

@Kiera Okay I see, makes sense. Thank you so much x

Working tax credits are a legacy benefit, you can’t apply for it and all those currently on it are being moved on to UC in phases this year x

Sorry I meant tax free childcare!
