You don’t get taxed on maternity pay in fact you might even get a rebate haha , I have a Vinted where I make and sell different crochet bits as well as some clothes. Apply for universal credit if you can it literally saved me and my partner ! There’s also a sure maternity grant you can apply for for a one off payment of £500 for your new baby but you need to be on another benefit first to be able to claim it. Also you get 90% of your current wage for the first six weeks then it goes to £184 a week, only the first 9 months of maternity leave are paid x
Apply for universal credit! It isn’t much; but my partner earns 1.2/1.300 a month and they pay me £119. Also got offered an interest free loan from them when we had our face to face meeting, I’m not sure if it’s for everyone but they offered up to 1,200 to pay back over 24 months. They automatically take from the UC payment and if you aren’t entitled to anything then they obviously set up a payment plan. I’m currently on SMP, it doesn’t even cover my rent. It’s hard, but we’re getting by. Also considering returning to work early but really don’t want to and I know the UC will adjust as our total income will reduce once my SMP stops You can take KIT days with work to top up I’m not sure on your company’s policy but I’m sure you’re able to pick the days! Maybe one day a week would help? I think you get 10KIT days
Thanks so much everyone there’s some ideas I hadn’t thought of here! So helpful thank you! 🙏🏽🤍
Such a worry isn’t it !!!! I’m not entitled to UC either which is a pain!!
To the original poster - SMP is very much taxed if your earnings this year take you over the taxable income threshold when you start SMP X
I don’t get taxed on my SMP as I won’t earn over the tax free amount this year. We are entitled to UC as a couple of around £350 a month. However we have had to cut back on some luxuries but I use Vinted to sell some of my clothes as well as buying and selling bits for my son. My SMP finishes mid December but I am going to put through some holiday to get me through to the new year. You could possibly do that? X
I ate into my savings so much with my first so probably will and already am with my second 😕 I got taxed and NI with my first. Probably the same this time, haven't checked. No rebate. Can't get UC either due to too much savings in the bank.
I do digital Products tbf and it makes me 3/4 figures a week
I’ve got a 17 month interest free credit card. Racking up debts on here and plan on paying it back from 12 months when I return to work. Obviously I’m not going crazy with it, just making sure we get what we need
