Cleft Palate

I went first a private scan today and was just looking at the pictures and videos I got. This one video really looks like the baby may have a cleft palate? All the other pictures and vids look fine. Any thoughts? My 20 week scan was all good and nothing like this was picked up cause I know they check for it during the anatomy scan. The sonographer also doing the private one today said that everything was perfect. But I can’t help think that this looks like it is that.

It does look it from this scan, however that’s not me saying it is. I’m no expert. They will have your photos on the system if it was only today, maybe phone them up and see if they would look at it for an opinion. And maybe mention it to your midwife who may give another scan x

@Rheo thank you. Yeah I’ve dropped them an email to see if they can offer any comments! Yeah I think I’m going to call my midwife during the week. It’s odd cause none of the other pictures look it.

Definitely don’t get upset about it especially if it wasn’t picked up on the anatomy scan as that’s what they look for!! Looks completely normal on the 2nd photo, I wouldn’t worry. Could just be a awkward angle x

I’d say it’s likely just the way the 4D has come out - we were told the 4D scans were a lot better from sort of 30 weeks plus! It’s definitely something they check for at the 20 week scan as I remember them saying about it for me.

How far along are you? They usually check for cleft on your 20 week scan Private 4d scans usually are just for pleasure an not medical purposes so I don't think they could diagnose cleft

@Rebecca I’m 21 weeks. I’ve had my anatomy scan and she did told us that everythign was fine. She went through very thing she was checking and said no cleft and explained what you would see that was the case. So perhaps just a strange angle/bit of footage from the 4d scan x

@Leonie thank you for being so reassuring. I really appreciate that x

@Rheo thank you so much. I really appreciate your support and kindness xx

I went for a private scan and didn’t want 3D but the lady still took some And they worried me More than anything - the pics were scary !

Stills from videos are unlikely to be good quality images. Seems like the image is just a bit unclear. Trained experts have looked at the baby and said it's ok, if all the other images are fine as well, there's no reason to disbelieve them.

Thank you so much everyone for all the reassurance. I’m very grateful Xx

The 4d Photos are not ones I would take for read on anatomy. I had a glimpse in my private scan and I got a couple of images but to be honest. They can look incredibly freaky anyway!!! It's probably from the image moving or something. Some of the images from mine, my baby honestly looks terrifying! The NHS scans are so in depth and they really take more time studying all of the anatomy as that what it's for so I'd trust that one. Especially clearly private scan experiences vary too! Xx

@Bethan thank you for your message Bethan. That’s honestly really reassuring to read xx
