Is ivf for us?

We have a healthy 3 year old son who we fell pregnant with really quickly and had an uncomplicated pregnancy with. Skip to TTC number 2 and we have had 4 miscarriages (1 MMC at 10 weeks resulting in D&C, 2 chemicals and 1 early resulting in D&C) in the last year. the pregnancy tissue from the last D&C has been sent off to be looked at by the hospital. We are on the list for the recurring miscarriage clinic and have an appointment for November. We are considering going private and trying IVF but I just don’t know if it’s for us. We are struggling with it sticking, not conceiving. We have booked for private fertility tests but can not do these untill 3 cycles post miscarriage. We don’t qualify for NHS testing due to having our son but they have said if we can get pregnant again and they can find a heart beat at 6 weeks they will help us and give us anything we need to help the baby stick. Has anybody been in a similar position and gone down the private IVF route?

Could u try blood thinners/ baby aspirin to help implantation and get some private implantation testing done?

I can ask the private clinic about the imputation testing. Blood thinners etc I’m ubsure about taking without a doctor telling me too, progesterone has been recommended by a lot of friends but nobody professional!

I could have written this post! I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I had 2 d&c’s last year after miscarriages and could wait for another to know why. I’m 38 and after some tests it transpired I was pre menopausal. Which came as a shock. I also had to have 2 operations this year due to scar tissue in my womb from my d&c’s. Fast forward to today, we are going through ivf and just put an embryo in. This is completely self funded. If you want to talk in detail please let me know xxx

What a journey @Ash ! I hope this round of IVF works for you! I will drop you a DM

I had 3 early miscarriages (all ivf) and saw professionals at Tommy’s a few times but they couldn’t find anything obvious (they only test progesterone and didn’t go further). Honestly no one can tell you for sure what it is. It could be the embryo itself being faulty (with wrong chromosomes) or it could be your immune system or the womb. In the end my private fertility clinic suggested PGT testing to select only normal embryos and also did more (expensive) immunological tests. I was then put on blood thinner & steroids and our beautiful boy stuck. The thing is no one knows for sure what worked there.

I’m so sorry for your losses. It doesn’t sound like you have implantation issues as you have a child and had an MMC and an early loss. After my MMC my doctor told me that miscarriages normally happen because there is something not quite right with the embryo. Someone else mentioned PGT testing which allows you to test embryos to make sure they are chromosomally normal before they are transferred. That could be one benefit of IVF in your circumstances but it is quite expensive so it’s something to look into and consider if it’s for you

I’ve had 6 miscarriages, including 1 ectopic. 3 were conceived naturally and then 3 were from ivf. We were then struggling to get pregnant naturally however that could have just been the toll from ttc for a long time which impacts your sex drive. We got 4 embryos, all top Quality however still miscarried. We saw a recurrent specialist before ivf and nothing was found. After all of the above, we fell naturally again after completing 1 round of ivf. We wanted to take 6 months off before considering round 2. and I’m now 36 weeks. Personally, I don’t feel we got anything from ivf. What I did do was read it starts with an egg and done a lot of research and we were both already on prenatal vitamins, vitamin d however I’d heard a lot about coenzyme q10 with ubiquinol. A good quality one. They say to allow 3 months for it to make a difference and especially with improving quality from men which is when we fell pregnant. Could be a coincidence however worth a try if it saves you thousands.

With it starts with an egg, I was really only looking for vitamin info which I didn’t take them all. Most of the book was a little Excessive for me but there were points to take away from it. X
