ECV success

Hello, Just thought I’d post this here to give anyone in a similar situation (extended breech baby, considering an ECV but concerned by some of the horror stories out there) a little boost! My baby girl has been breech from the start - my pregnancy was classified as higher risk than usual so I had monthly growth scans which meant I knew she was breech from early on and did not seem inclined to move! At my 36 week scan - as expected - she still had not moved and was in extended breech (so hands and feet up around her head with legs straight). I had my ECV scheduled for week 37+0 and was told we only had about a 20% chance of her flipping (which was further complicated by her umbilical cord being very close to her face so there was some concern she may tangle herself up if she did flip). Although the Drs were happy to consider breech vaginal birth options, that was something I hoped to avoid. So I decided to go ahead with the ECV. In terms of the procedure, they tilted my hospital bed backwards so I was lying on an incline for 20 minutes and then the Dr started the ECV. He essentially just pressed firmly on my belly to help shift baby around - it wasn’t painful at all (although it was not comfortable). I didn’t need any pain meds and they didnt inject me with anything beforehand and there are no marks/bruises on me afterwards. And happy news - baby did turn successfully and the actual ECV only took about 5 minutes! So if like me you have been put off by some of the horror stories I would definitely discuss it with your midwife/Dr and it’s sometimes worth a go even if the odds aren’t great :)
