Best week of IVF to have time off work

I’m thinking of taking some time off work during August as have enough to use. For those who’ve been through IVF process before, would you take off time during Stims or time after egg collection/during transfer? Hoping to do a fresh transfer

I would take a few days for the egg transfer. You could be sore afterwards. I also took some time off after the transfer. I wanted to be relaxed.

I think it depends a bit on how you feel - in some cycles I’ve been exhausted during stims, so could have done with some time off! You definitely need the day off for egg collection, as you will be sedated, and as Laura says you might be sore. Personally I work after transfer as it gives my brain something to do other than worrying about whether it’s worked / obsessing over every potential symptom. But of course depends what job you have - I have an office job, so can take it easy whilst keeping my mind busy.

I would suggest after transfer so you can focus on resting and going for gentle walks etc x

Definitely after egg collection… if you are at high risk of ohss you could feel poorly for many days.

I felt ok during stims, just a little bloated. As long as your work allows you to make it to those early morning scans, you shouldn’t really need any time off for that bit. I would definitely take a day off for the egg collection and the day after too as you might be sore and feeling a little delicate. The transfer is normally quick and painless but I recommend taking the rest of the day off with your partner if you can to do something fun and take your mind off things. Don’t go home and mooch on the couch - it’s not good for your mental health. By far the hardest part is the two week wait, when I found I was at my most stressed and most in need of a good distraction. If you can plan some fun activities for this time, then definitely do so. Good luck! 🤞🍀

My egg collection was on a Monday and I had that day off plus 2 more but I wished I'd booked the full week off, I was very sore and high risk for OHSS. My transfer was a Saturday and I booked monday-wednesday off after which was nice... im doing FET next month and I've told work I'm having the full week after my transfer off non-negotiable 😅

I felt fine during stims, definitely needed time off after egg collection as I got OHSS and was admitted to hospital 🫥

I'd recommend taking from egg collection day off until transfer if doing a fresh one and you have time to take. I found days 2-4 post egg collection the worst on both my rounds as was so bloated and sore. Also start drinking prune juice and eating all the fibre before you have your egg collection... You can thank me later!

I didn’t expect to get so many responses 💓 thank you everyone for your advice

Our first round of IVF I took 3 days off, 1 for egg collection, and 2 days for transfer. Unfortunately we weren’t successful. During our second round I took 2 weeks off from egg collection. If you can I would definitely recommend taking more time after transfer/collection, I felt I fully recovered after all the stims & collection 🙂
