I don't think you should feel icky - you're her mama! You're the one she'll come to with her girly questions. My mom was watching when I birthed my son and if I had been allowed to deliver with my midwife (I went into labor too early), I wouldn't have minded her helping catch him. However, I do completely get what you mean about men (other than my husband/his daddy)! I hope my husband will be on the same page as me with that if we ever have a girl.
I can understand feeling awkward about it, but it has to be done for her own benefit. You're Mama, so it's ok for you to wipe her down with it! Now, if it was Uncle, cousin, or brother, then I'd probably say nođ I still feel weird putting powder on my son because I have to put it on and under his nuts or they get raw, but I started getting more comfortable because I knew it had to be done.
Itâs so awkward sometimes but we gotta do it. I have a little boy and didnât know they get erections as babies. Personally we use coconut oil for diaper rashes and thatâs a lot easier to put on.
Similar stuff happens with boys. Baby boys also get yeast build up that looks like a landing strip of cottage cheese if you donât clean properly around their penis and balls. Itâs made me become very thorough, but it definitely made me uncomfortable the first 2 times just because Iâd been so gentle on that area. And donât even mention the first time my doctor had me use a suppository⌠I definitely did not think Iâd be sticking stuff up my own sonâs butt so early.
@Karin Yes to everything you just typedđ Especially the suppository. I feel so awkward about it, but I know it had to be done when they're backed up. I still feel weird taking a butt tempđ¤˘
@Alice they get what now as babies?!
@Karin wait what the hell is the suppository for
@Necole yes! Erections are just blood flow to the penis! Stimulation can do it but also a manâs penis will naturally makes itself erect when sleeping to make sure it gets ample blood flow!! I didnât know this until I wad with my husband!
@Meghan yeah I knew that but like ewwâŚin a baby?
lol I think what Alice meant is they get blood flow to their penis when they have to pee and it extends as they pee. As they start to gain more control over peeing and donât just instantly pee as a reflex, there is indeed even more blood flow to the area. Itâs actually a way to watch out if you are going to get peed on.
@Necole infant suppository is usually for severe cases of constipation. It works almost instantly to relieve the issue. But I only suggest people resort to it after their doctor gives the go ahead.
@Necole itâs quite literally so it doesnât fall off and die. And when youâre cleaning a penis yes youâre stimulating it. Nothing gross about a body functioning
@Necole well itâs not sexual. The blood flow. But it is important for boy moms to know that even babies have nerve endings in their penis that make it feel good to be touched. So pretty much the second they discover this, little boys will touch themselves. Itâs not sexual still. But it does catch a lot of new boy moms by surprise. I helped my parents caretaking my youngest brother so I got memories of a toddler brother with his hands down his pants đ đ¤Śđźââď¸
From a mom of 3 girls and 1 baby boy ladies le me tell you there your own babyâs mama got to do what mama got to do! My girls have needed yest infection cream when when they are little kids you need to apply it on them because they donât know, mamas is just the beginning you get use to it trust me đ and when they get there period they come to you with those questions too itâs just part of being a Mom đ

@Karin mine doesnât happen when he has to pee though. I was actually shocked the first time I read it was a sign they would pee. Even today when he peed in the back seat of my car⌠still gotta figure out how Iâm gonna fix that⌠there was zero warning. But in no way did I ever mean it was sexual. Just a surprise to me the first time I saw it standing at attention. I was 10 when my brother was born and changed some of his diapers and donât remember that. I may just never have noticed because I was so young and didnât even know what it was.
As a mom of 4 with only one girl , I feel you on this .
@Jasmin its not that I'm disgusted about it. Itâs more so disturbing. Like itâs weird to think about because some people get kicks out off this

I showed my husband how to clean our LG in depth because a vagina has such a delicate balance for pH and can easily get yeast infections if wiped incorrectly. So I took the time to spread her labia, how to wash around the clit, how to make sure he doesnât accidentally tear the lowest part of the vagina from spreading it too far. We put diaper cream on every night since she sleeps through the night now and it ensures she wonât get a rash from the amount of liquid or if she does poop (she doesnât mind it so we have to listen for it and sometimes we wake up to her having poop in her diaper) then she doesnât rash. Vaginal health and proper hygiene for my little girl is so important to me and is sooo important to educate on for her father who has never had to worry about yeast infections or vaginal health before. But I would NEVER EVER let a man besides her father change her just because i see all those stories of "it was the brother/brother in law, father, father in law, etc"
