NHS support

I just went through my second consecutive CP, I can’t seem to get over the 7 week mark. I’m just wondering if anyone in a similar situation (who’s UK based) had support from their GP after or treatment? I’ve read NHS guidelines and it suggests that after 3 losses in a row they’ll refer you on to a specialist, I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience of this? TIA x

Hi, my daughter had 3 but only went through the hospital with 2 of them. As like yourself only ever got to around 7/8 week mark.. she got referred last year and within 4/5 weeks was seen by the miscarriage clinic for various tests which came back that everything was normal and was all just unexplained. Where are you based in the uk x

I’m really sorry to hear this, it’s so hard. I’ve had 4 chemical pregnancies (and 1 missed miscarriage at 13 weeks) so know how heartbreaking it is. After 3 your GP will refer you on to specialist for some tests. I’ve just had my first appointment and had some blood tests for various things. They have also prescribed progesterone, which can help when you’ve had recurrent miscarriages. If it’s any consolation though, chemical pregnancies (though extremely heartbreaking and awful) are very, very common and one quarter of pregnancies end early on - and perhaps more than this as lots of people don’t know they’re pregnant that early - for random chromosome issues, so it doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong or you won’t have a healthy pregnancy! I had 2 consecutive chemicals before having my little boy, then had a full term healthy pregnancy with him, so there was obviously nothing wrong with my ability to have kids at the time. Hope your next pregnancy sticks! 🙏 x

I’m so sorry to hear of your losses, I was the same. Couldn’t get over 7 weeks, I eventually got seen by the doctor and epu. I literally got everything single test done other than having pcos everything was fine. My last loss in August last year they gave me progesterone but it was too late. I kept it and used it with this current pregnancy and I’m 24w now. Honestly think the progesterone is the reason. Get on to your doctor for tests and see about progesterone. The early pregnancy unit currently gives it out for any bleeding in early pregnancy as standard (at least where I live) good luck with your journey! Xx

@Georgie my daughter has been prescribed progesterone next time she falls pregnant & has to ring for the prescription straight away.x

@Danielle aww I really hope it works for her! Honestly it’s made all the difference with my current pregnancy, I started taking it at 5 weeks and I stopped at 16+6. I’ve got my fingers crossed for her xx

Investigations are still triggered at 3 miscarriages however early pregnancy units are prescribing progesterone regardless of number of miscarriages if a miscarriage is threatened and there is a pregnancy seen on ultrasound within the uterus so it’s worth contacting them if you fall pregnancy again

Thank you all for your advice around your experiences, I know that’s it’s not always easy to talk about but thank you it’s given me hope xxx

Im sorry your going through this! I’ve had 2 CP both around 5 weeks but I rang my GP to log them & to see if they could do anything. After a bit of a beg, I got seen & had some blood tests done just to check everything was ok & they said when I get my next positive to ring EPU straight away & they should prescribe progesterone. May be worth trying your GP? But if they wont then I would ring as soon as you get your next positive to see if you can get progesterone. Good luck 🤍

My daughter been prescribed this and I’ve looked into it this week with our local chemist to see if stock it, they don’t 😩 got to order it in..what I’ve said to my daughter is we need to ask for a first prescription up front to start from day 1 to save us of this heart ache again xx
