Circumcising at 9 months

I want to have my son circumcised, he’s almost 9 months now. Does anyone have any place they can recommend they took their son too? Or any place to stay away from? Anywhere in GTA

Thank you! How old was your lo when you got him circumcised ?

Had done it right after birth at Mount Sinai hospital

Why? Just wondering what the reason is

He was 13 days old. It healed within 4 days and by day 10 it was perfect. He barely felt a thing as the doctor numbed it and provided an excellent, easy after care routine with ointment covered by Ohip. 🙏🏼

@Barbie there’s a very big difference between 13 days and 9 months though. 9 months, you’re baby is feeling it and is going to experience a lot of pain and emotions to follow. Sure, he’ll forget about it eventually and as long as the parents are carefully washing and attending to it, I think it can heal well. But I’m wondering why? So many doctors frown upon it. Some call it mutilation. OHIP doesn’t cover the procedure unless necessary. Most hospitals won’t offer the option. Im curious to know the benefits when the myth of “it’s for hygiene” has been proven false time and time again.

@Emma it’s a part of our faith too and I felt that that’s what would be best for my son. To each their own. 🤷‍♀️

The procedure for a 9 month old is different than a newborn. Sickkids for example, requires a referral to their Urology clinic if older than 8 weeks and the procedure is done under general anesthesia. Highly recommend the clinic at Sickkids

@Tara yes I have heard of the sick kids clinic! Thank you for the recommendation, really appreciate it. Have you taken your son there? If so, do you mind sharing your experience.

My son was circumcised by Urology team at Sick kids. He was 8 days old, whole experience was very smooth.

Our son was circumcised there at about 6 weeks old. The whole process was great—very thorough explanations and follow up was great as well

The Dr at Mount Sinai told us that he could do it at 2 months max, because after that time the procedure would be too painful
