Birth control?

Every one I’ve talked to has asked me if im on Birth control and tries to talk me into it when i say im not on it. I know im more fertile after having my son but I dont want the added issues that come with birth control. Ive heard so many horror stories about bleeding more, hormonal issues, weight gain and more and im just not wanting to go through that. But on the other hand i dont want another unplanned pregnancy, I love my son but I definitely didn’t plan on having him this soon in my life. Anyways what birth control are you guys on any pros or cons or regrets?

I’m in the same boat! I have no idea which to choose. I’ve had the nexplanon before and I hated it. I gained so much weight so I’m so scared to get back on something 😔

No advice, I'm in the same boat! I will never go on hormonal birth control again, it messed with my fertility big time! For now my partner is just pulling out.

i’m not in the same boat but i do understand the situation of people trying to tell you what you should do about your body. i got on birth control after my son as soon as possible he was unplanned. love him so dam much but still unplanned. before i had him i was on the pill it didn’t work at all hence why i now have a son. so i’m now currently on nexaplanon. pros: no pregnancy scares, can get as freaky as i choose, and i’ve gained weight ( i wanted to gain weight because my medication had made me lose 30 pounds in a month), increased appetite, i don’t have to remember anything about my birth control ( taking it etc), my cramps haven’t been as bad as they used to be and i used to be in so much pain to the point where i would faint. cons: my period is irregular( it’s always been irregular) it hurt for the first week, does mess up my mood sometimes, if i ever get into a fight it’s my number 1 weakness 😔 cause why are you aiming for my arm like that.

A big part of it too is that statistically, getting pregnant less than a year after birth does carry increased risk for preterm pregnancy and other complications. Plus your cycle is all over the place in that time so you can’t really know when you are ovulating so unprotected sex in that time can result in pregnancy

@Tiffani ive never been on birth control but ive heard lots of people say it’s messed with their fertility. I definitely dont want anything hormonal bc im also breastfeeding and would hate to lose my milk supply

@Janykqua Same here. I was on nuva ring for several years and when I came off it to TTC, I had no period for a year.

I have the Skyla IUD, it’s very low hormone and administered directly into your uterus, so I haven’t had any side effects. I’ve had two other IUDs previously (Mirena and Kyleena). Mirena gave me pretty bad period cramps but Kyleena was also very good for me.

I am absolutely using birth control right now. I do the mini pill because I'm also nursing. I did the same thing after having my first baby. I've had no issues at all, and it definitely didn't affect my fertility. I was on hormonal birth control for 15+ years before having kids, and I got pregnant very quickly.

For me the most basic BC was the best! Sprintec I believe it’s called. The “fancy” biphasic BCs (orthotrycycline lo) made me like a zombie. So I really liked the monophasic BC.

I really like my IUD, no weight gain, if I do bleed it’s very little. Mine is good for 5 years

I just always advise against depo, I suffered secondary infertility took 5 years to get pregnant after, I’m not on bc now but we want 2 more kids and trying again here soon

@Lexi which iud do you have? Did it drop your milk supply, if you breastfed?

@Janykqua I believe the Mirena it’s a 5 year one: and no my milk supply didn’t drop :) I was given the option of 3 different iuds and my doctor recommended that one as some people don’t have periods as all with it and some have a very light period

I’ve tried literally every kind of birth control (pills, shots, patches, you name it) and I definitely prefer the IUD in terms of side effects.

I have the Skyla IUD. I had that before I started trying to conceive too and I’ve had a great experience. Absolutely no symptoms aside from not getting a period which I’m not mad about. It’s a low dose of hormones compared to every other hormonal birth control (even other hormonal IUDs) and so it’s less likely to have symptoms or even lose your period. It didn’t affect my ability to conceive either. I was on it for almost 9 years and didn’t have a period that whole time before I removed it and I conceived immediately that next month. And I haven’t had any issues with it postpartum. My milk supply has been great and I haven’t had any issues losing baby weight.
