NG tube at home

Has anyone had their baby sent home with an NG tube? I just got the call from the NICU that they want to send our twin home with one if we are comfortable with it. Just wanting an idea of how life is with one and how long your baby needed it.

We almost had to. Baby girl pulled it out at the last minute and started not needing it lol do you have to learn to place it?

Our little girl had one, I was so terrified but they showed us how to manage it etc and one out biggest fears was it falling out but they advised we can contact them anytime. They sometimes had people who could come and put it back in or we could ways go to the hospital. She was home with it for a few days and then she pulled it out herself but thankfully we didn’t need to get it back in. Her eating changed at home because we were more comfortable and not stressed so she was too. Feel free to message me if you’ve got any questions etc x

@Megan yes, they said they would train us to insert it if it falls out and how to change it.

@Lisa yeah, I'm a little freaked out at the idea of if it falls out. I'm hoping when she comes home the light bulb goes off with eating more, her feeds from from 50s% to 80s% on any given day and since Monday was my due date they decided to let her come home if we are comfortable with the tube. I will probably most definitely be messaging you if I have questions or regular mom anxiety about the tube haha

My baby discharged with ng and had it for week at home. Then 2 days in a row she didn't need it and I took it off and throw it away. Since you have a twins though, keeping them in hospital and discharging them at the same might be easier for you. Fist few days were pretty hard

@Aliisa twin B has been home for 3 weeks tomorrow so we have gotten use to her being home. I'm hoping twin A only needs the tube for a couple days and just takes off with oral feeds.

Then, I think taking home with Ng good idea. It is really not as difficult as it looks and all our nicu nurses told that babies feed much better at home. It must be feeling safer and nicer.

I had! It’s not really the same because I’m in the UK They did not trained us on how to insert it but whenever she did pull it out we called them they were able to come within couple hours. We had all other training and she was 50% breast fed at the time I was very worried at first but it was the best decision

My LB came home without one but we were asked if I wanted him home with it. I was told if he came home with it we'd be trained to place it, and would be able to call or go to the hospital if needed, luckily for me he didn't need it two days before he came home. (UK)

My son went home with one. The first time putting it in was hard, but after that it was pretty easy. He only needed it for a month or so.
