Late period after first cycle

So I’m ten months postpartum, and my period returned last month at exactly the 9 month mark. This months it’s late by a week, but every pregnancy test I’ve taken is negative. I’m still nursing my baby and we are using protection except for the start of one time. Anyone experienced this? Was your cycle just extremely irregular after first coming back? Or were you pregnant?

My cycle returned postpartum around 8 weeks the second time around. Exclusively nursing. I used the Clearblue fertility monitor to do natural family planning. Over 1 year postpartum without using contraception (it is against our faith), very grateful to have this device. At the start I was getting high readings for weeks (the norm is 5 days or less), very long cycles, and was ovulating on day 21-25 up until like a month ago. It's normal when you're nursing. Well really it's normal to not get your cycle back at all when exclusively nursing but we live in a different age with different food. If pregnancy tests say negative then I wouldn't worry. I was SO paranoid about getting pregnant again too soon and so we were abstaining completely off and on for months at a time. But I'm more comfortable now.

@Kathryn this is really helpful, thank you so much! Sounds like might be likely I just ovulated late, so now I just have to wait for the actual period to come. Thanks so much for your input and experience!
