Pumping again after a EBF

I was pumping 2-3 hours the first few weeks but stopped when baby was a month old as she wouldn’t take the bottle but loved being on the boob. Baby is now 6 months old and I’m starting to pump again to use the milk making purées etc but I’m only getting a tiny amount of milk out. Seems the pump only works when baby is latched on the other boob. Otherwise almost nothing comes out. Is this normal, anything I can do to increase milk without having baby latched? I’ve had to buy a wearable pump just to be able to get some milk out.

I've heard wearable are less strong than not wearable. When you pump are you pumping both sides or just one when she isn't latched?

It's the oxytocin that helps produce prolactin. When I went back to work for a few months after having my girl, I would watch videos of her breastfeeding on my phone while I pumped lol. It worked wonders!

Are you pumping after a feed? Maybe the supply has regulated to exactly what baby needs so you don’t have much extra? My aunt told me she had that happen from not pumping for months

@Amelia I had a non wearable one as well. Same issue. And it’s near impossible tryna pump with that on while feeding on the other side as baba wants to grab everything. I’ve tried pumping both as well and I get nothing unless she’s attached.

@Jessica 🌺🧚‍♀️ I will give this a try. I literally sit with her playing with her etc, smelling her toes whatever I can 😅. But I think I’m too in my mind about it, and that’s stressing me out.

If you are pumping after feeding her, it is normal to not get much more than an ounce of milk. As you pump more, your body may adjust to give you a little more milk. But it is very likely that it has already adjusted to your baby’s needs.
