Has anyone refused the GD test before?

I really don't want to have my GD blood test. I'm struggling to sort out childcare along with having to work afterwards (I do late shifts in the week) and being there at 7am feels so impractical (I understand why due to not being able to eat) Has anyone ever refused it or been given an alternate method to check?

I was quite poorly during my pregnancy so I refused it cus not eating for that long just didn't seem feasible. I told my midwife and she said aslong as I keep eating healthy and keep hydrated I should be ok. But she also said the previous blood tests I had done, the normal pregnancy ones would flag anything abnormal so not to worry.

I did mine. But I overheard the midwife tell somebody they could test at home with finger pricks.. as they could not arrange childcare and our hospital didn’t allow guest

I've been going through this process the last week or so. I declined the full GTT, because I have extremely severe responses to fasting blood tests (passing out and terrible vomitting). They agreed for me to do finger monitoring, but only because I had a medically valid reason to not do the full test. I could also have declined testing all together, it's absolutely your choice to decline diabetic testing if you want to it's not mandatory. However, on doing the finger monitoring it has revealed that I do have GD, just slightly over the threshold for now but GD does get worse during pregnancy (I'm 24 weeks). I'm glad that I tested, in whatever format, because there has been absolutely no other indication e.g. no protein in urine, no thirst etc.

You could ask if they can give u a kit to test yourself. I was diagnosed with GD and I had no symptoms to begin with and passed the blood test when I was 1st pregnant. As my pregnancy progressed when I had high sugars it did make me ill. I had to change my whole diet to stay diet controlled. Speak to ur midwife about it as undiagnosed GD can u make u and ur baby unwell x

@Charley see this is another reason why I don't wanna do it, I slipped breakfast last week and almost fainted! I was soooo ill at the beginning of my pregnancy. I just don't wanna go through it (I had it with my first and was fine but that pregnancy was completely different) I will also be having extra scans and stuff so hoping if there is anything it will be picked up xxx

@Abby thank you so much

@Ally that's what I was gonna ask my midwife! I heard you can do it yourself at home! I hope they don't judge me haha xx

@Catherine this is also on my mind aswell. Like what if I do have it? Hopefully I don't buy I am aware the symptoms can be silent! I'm hoping I have an alternate option! Thanks for your advice xxx

Are you self employed? If not, your work should be releasing you for any pregnancy related appointments without pay deduction.

I managed it myself, it was hard but I found a fb site called gestational diabetes UK and it was so helpful for changing my diet and showing me what I could have x

I have and they ended up testing it through my urine and blood which came back negative xx
