Allergies

My little girl came up in a rash covering her whole body after switching to cows milk. Had an emergency GP appointment and was told she probably has a milk allergy. Prescribed allergy medication for her to take to clear the rash and told to put her back on formula milk. How do i go about getting her properly diagnosed with a milk allergy or would this be put on her doctors note and be classed as a official allergy? Please help, I don’t know anyone with allergy’s to ask😂

Make her Health visitor aware they should arrange for testing to be carried out my little boy is the same we have to use soya and plant based food products. You basically want to remove the allergen completely for a long enough period the body should 'forget' about it.

@Dana Thank you so much for the reply! How do they do the allergy test could i ask? My little girl is just terrified of the doctors.

We are still waiting on tests but from my understanding they will give you milk that's been broken down into componants to see what part triggers the allergy (lactose,protein, ect)

Also, please be aware that if it is the milk proteins that she is allergic to (no way to know until tested), then there is a very high chance she will also be allergic to soy (around 70% chance). Introduce soy very carefully and consider oat/coconut/almond alternatives. Coconut collaborative yoghurt is very tasty. If you're going for an exclusion diet until diagnosed, then rich tea, jammy dodgers, party rings, bourbons, and oreos are all dairy free xx

In terms of getting diagnosed, your GP should refer you to paeds, who will assess and refer to immunology, for testing. For severe, instant reactions like this (IgE reactions) they usually recommend completely excluding the allergen. Then they invite you and little one to hospital, periodically, to check if they are still allergic. We had this for fish the other week. She failed and reacted, so we go back in a year.
