Colostrum

I was told I can start hand expressing to collect colostrum but I have no idea where to start! Do I catch it into a bottle then put it into the syringe? Any advice is appreciated🙏

You can do it one of two ways, either in a small sterile cup (like one of those small medicine measurers) and then suck it up with a syringe or use the syringe and suck up the droplets as you go. I started using a small cup to collect but I felt like it was drying up too quickly and when I tried to syringe it up it left some in there. I've found using the syringe directly to be more effective for me, but I think it's personal preference. I only do it once or twice a day, after a couple of days you do seem to get the hang of it. I don't produce loads so every drop is precious, I've seen others filling up 5mls in one sitting (that'd take me 4 or 5 days!), so give each a go and see what works for you. 😊 P.s. there are various videos on YouTube about it which might be helpful...

I'd recommend doing this just once or twice a day. Hand expressing can help start your labor. When women are late term they are told doing this can speed up "starting labor"

Thank you! I'm nearly 38 weeks but my midwife said I could've started last week but wasn't 100% just incase. I'll give both ways a go and see how it goes😊

If I didn't start at 34 weeks I wouldn't have had any for my baby that came at 37 I hand expressed into a little cup and sucked it up w syringes then started using a hand pimp and was able to have multiple ounces before birth

The syringe method worked wonders for me

I went with the syringe method and managed to do it comfortably! Thank you all😊🙏

So I didn’t collect it until after my baby was born and then I pumped, but if you do harvest it now make sure to only do so in short intervals so it can stimulate your milk supply/production 🫶🏼
