Reflux

Before you start attacking me, I know the safest way for my baby to sleep is flat in his crib without any blankets or pillows, but my baby has been dealing with reflux and it is so frustrating to see him grunting and squirming in his sleep and have doctors tell me my baby is fine. what do you think about this supposed product that helps with reflux?

Have you gotten a reflux diagnosis from his paediatrician? How old is he? Is he rolling? How's his head support? Does he wear a swaddle? Is he on solids yet? What food? Does he take a probiotic? Gotta ask ask the Qs before giving As!!

Are you 100% sure it’s reflux? Babies are SO squirmy and noisy when they are little- active sleep they call it.

We talked to 3 pediatricians already, one of them told us that he has reflux but she wanted to wait for his regular pediatrician to give him the diagnosis and maybe medication but his regular pediatrician said it was not necessary, even tho I showed her videos of my baby sleeping grunting and twisting. He is 2 months, he is not rolling yet, we swaddle him to sleep. We tried all the recommendations, we burp him after every once, we keep him upright after he eats for even 45 min and nothing seems to help

@Sara yeah one of the doctors already told us that he has reflux but wanted to wait for his regular pediatrician to diagnose him. I know active sleep since he was doing that before, but now he grunts and twirls the whole night nonstop not only for a couple of minutes

Is he breast fed or bottle fed? Any allergies?

My boy has reflux from he was pretty much 2 weeks old. All the same systems as your little one we had a tough few weeks of constant screaming with feeds and being sick after bottles etc. we got put on carobel and omeprazole so your doctor should have prescribed something to help. We got told to roll up a towel or blanket and put it underneath say a Moses basket mattress at baby’s head to give that recline if you don’t have anything that tilts etc but my boy hated this so we just had to deal with it as best we could by keeping him upright as much as possible and just taking each day as it came. It does get easier once you figure out what works for your little one. I didn’t use anything like this for mine as it wasn’t recommended apparently x

Try Biogia, it will take a week or two to start seeing the effects but this changed our lives. We though our son had colic, turns out just had a new belly that needed some good gut flora, now he's out little gem

Maybe use this during naps when he is being supervised, I’m not sure I’d want to risk my baby’s life while we both sleep in case something happened.

This product looks incredibly dangerous to me. I get the whole not being able to lie flat (our boy had severe reflux) but this looks like an overheating and suffocation risk too. When our baby was in his next to me we had it on the inclined setting so he was a bit more comfortable but no risk of suffocation or overheating. When he went into his cot which didn't have an incline option we had a very thin wedge pillow that we placed underneath his mattress. Again this meant he wasn't lying flat so was more comfortable but no risk of suffocation or overheating since it was underneath his mattress.

I've just looked at the other images in the comments. We actually had something very similar to this that we were gifted. I asked the midwife if it was safe to use and she said no due to overheating and suffocation so I'd definitely say this has those risks too.

@Rebecca since it looks to be firm and it has the stripes to keep the baby in place and far from the face I thought there was no risk of suffocation, but yeah I can see the overheating risk

Does his crib recline? Mine has a recline feature. It might be safer to even roll a blanket and put it under the mattress at the head end so there’s nothing in the bed but still reclined?

@Mama A we tried that during the day but he would slip down to the bottom of the bassinet and one day I almost had a heart attack because of the inclination he was about to turn over while he was swaddled

Hey I used a nest but always sat wirh him while he slept and stopped after a while as he would get too hot. There a next to ne crib that tilts slightly u may want to look into that

Incog I think they could still nuzzle their face into the cushion bit around their head and suffocate from that. Also potentially rebreathing their own co2 as not enough room for air to circulate.

Have you tried raising the head need of his crib up by propping it up under the feet? This is what we were advised to do

Grunting from babies isn’t usually reflux. It’s “Infant Dyschezia”. Our baby also has reflux, but it shows itself through excessive spit up and projectile vomiting. and it took til month 4 for our Pediatrician to agree to medication and only once symptoms present with pain after spit up. You can always go to a different doctor. But babies will have reflux no matter what you do until at least month 7. Read up on LES (Lower Esophagus Sphincter). It isn’t strengthened in babies enough to keep stomach and esophagus separate. The medication just helps them not have any burning pain.

Refluxy baby mom here. Pediatrician wouldn't diagnose her for ONE YEAR! It was fucking awful. Don't be like me. Don't give up til they help you. Do try probiotics like bio Gaia bc they did help some. baby Magic Tea also helped but only after like 4 days of giving it. At her 1 year birthday we got a pediatric gastro to prescribe her Famotidine and it has changed the game for my baby and for her exhausted parents. I was feeding her 12-14 bottles a day of 2.5 oz each bc that's all she could tolerate. That meant 3-4 night feedings still at 11 months!!! Ped said it was normal and it would resolve. You know your baby best. If you think this shit ain't normal it probably isn't. Fight whomever you gotta fight to get help.

I feel your pain, it’s ok for people to say this isn’t safe but what’s the alternative? Being held by an exhausted parent who’s likely to fall asleep. I’d say that’s a much greater risk of suffocation. We propped up baby’s crib, not so much that him made him slide down. The dr prescribed infant gaviscon, that we only give at night otherwise he gets constipated. If you are going to use this, you could monitor him using owlet smart sock/ dream sock. It’s not cheap but worth the money in my opinion and will alarm if baby came into difficulties.

I have a reflux baby who projectile vomits after every feed. We are currently on carobel and omeprazole which is helping a little bit but he is still sick a lot. Do you have a next to me? If so have it tilted so baby is not laying flat - since doing this we have seen an improvement throughout the night. If you don’t you could put something underneath the mattress to tilt it xx
