Collecting colostrum

Hello mamas How do you start to collect colostrum? I’m just about 36 weeks and set to have baby come at 39 weeks. I’ve been leaking since like 30 weeks but only when I’m sleeping..like I’ll wake up to my nipples all crusty. I know that’s a little tmi.

Make sure you've got some colostrum syringes (you can get these from your midwife or order online) and then start by hand expressing (loads of videos on youtube) I've found it's helped having a shower/bath beforehand to relax myself, I produced very slowly for the first few days but now get a good amount 😀

@Charlotte how long is it good for once collected?

Max 2 days in the fridge, but you can freeze it just make sure you add dates so you know when it was collected

So I didn’t collect it until after my baby was born and then I pumped, but if you do harvest it now make sure to only do so in short intervals so it can stimulate your milk supply/production 🫶🏼
