Cow’s milk for dinner?

I recently transitioned my 12 month old son to cow’s milk from formula. He drinks it throughout the day which is fine, and doctor approved as he’s on the lower end of the weight spectrum. BUT I’m finding he loves his milk so much it’s interfering with his solid food intake now - this is problematic especially at dinner because he’s waking up during the night hungry (not something that usually happened before). Any tips on how to change things, or what might be happening? In general he’s a good eater, tries new foods, etc; it’s just since this transition he seems to be focused solely on milk and is less interested in food. I should add that I offer water throughout the day as well so he does have other options for fluids. Thanks!

My kids had the same fixation when they were introduced to cows milk. I started offering it with their dinner and eventually they became interested in food again. They just want what they want unfortunately lol

We went through the same problem. Be patient and it will even out again. Our daughter still drinks a lot of milk and we just try to make sure she gets her meals in before her milk.

I would try serving water with meals and offer milk either after the meal or at other times.

I offer water with meals and throughout the day. My little girl usually drinks milk twice a day- once an hour or so after breakfast and after dinner and bath before bed. I’ve never offered milk with meals for the fear of filling up on milk and not on food.

If they’re not wanting to eat it’s because they’re drinking all their calories. Babies that young only need about 16-20 oz of milk a day. I would stop offering a drink until after the meal because even water will fill their tummy when they should really be putting food in. Try restricting milk to till after the meal or with only certain meals. We only give milk just before nap or bed times and that seems to work well for us so you could try that if you wanted to

Drop the milk at mealtime
