Spitting

its sensory. my 6 yr old with autism and adhd does it. he calms down a bit with it when his need is met with water play or long baths that more water end up on the floor than inside the bath. when he does it with his food? is he then playing with his spat out food?

That’s reassuring to know! Its just recently started but it worries me he’s not getting enough fluids because he literally just fills his cheeks up and spits it all out ☹️ And with food he tends to spit it out and feel it and this sounds gross but he tends to try and eat it again after he’s spat it out and played with it xx

@Hester kids are mysterious beings😂😂 they do weird things that gross us adults but normal for them 😂😂😂. mine fills up his cheeks runs around with a mouth full of juice or water and then spits into the air. sometimes he even does it with his own saliva 🤢🤢 my suggestion depends on what route you want to go. you can take away his juice cup or bottle and say no its for drinking and only let him have it if he drinks OR you can give him a bowl and a bottle of water and just let him keep doing it until he gets his sensory need met

@Mariana don’t they 😂😂omg does he 😂😂it’s so hard to know what’s just naughty behaviour and when his needs aren’t being met 😩I’m so new to all of this, we’re still on the waiting list for a diagnosis so currently getting no support and I honestly feel so clueless 😩 I usually take it away and only let him have it if he drinks it but that doesn’t seem to be working so I thjnk I’ll try the other option! Thank you so much though 🥹I don’t have any friends with autistic children so literally have no one to ask for advice on these things xx

@Hester after diagnosis you dont get any help, you just get leaflets and they tell you to take a look at the national society of autism website 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ everything is a guessing game. you just have to wing it half the time and hope you doing it right. with my son, i know when he is doing it to be naughty when i call his name and he becomes usian bolt and runs away laughing, if he doesnt run it means with him he hasnt realised he is doing something bad he just enjoying himself

@Mariana that’s so annoying 😩😩all that time you wait to just get nothing 🥲yeah that’s it!! That’s what I do every day but some days I don’t know if I’m doing it wrong or not 😩hahaha awww does he!! He still doesn’t respond to his name but I can imagine when he starts to he’ll also run away when he’s misbehaving 😂xx
