Group B Strep

Anyone got any experience of pregnancy and labour/birthing following a positive Group B Strep diagnosis? Just had one at 25 weeks and have been put on Penicillin as an initial treatment.

I had it in my last pregnancy and had IV antibiotics in labour. My little girl still caught it, but they reacted quick and treated her with antibiotics. They kept us in for 2 days post birth, but everything was fine. Hope this helps - the main thing is that they know about it x

I'm to be screened for this at 36 weeks as both my sons had neonatal sepsis when they were born/shortly afterwards . The consultant I have seen said if positive then I am fine to continue midwife led care, birth at the birth center and have a water birth, but I will have IV antibiotics during labour and that they will keep me and baby in for 24 hours after delivery.

@Charlotte thanks so much! Did you have to go into hospital as soon as you went into labour to start the IV? And were you still able to use the birthing pools if you’d wanted? Xx

No they only wanted me to go in early if my waters broke before the contractions became regular which they didn’t. Yes I could still go in the birthing pool if I wanted 😊 xx
