Preparation… what have you done so far?

Hi! I’m 14 weeks and we’ve done zero prep so far for baby. We have one baby grow & that’s it. I haven’t booked any antenatal classes (don’t know where to start), bought anything (bit worried to before 20wks) and we’re still yet to work out finances/MAT leave etc. Being my first baby, i don’t know if i’m behind or whether i have all the time in the world still. Any mums in the same boat as me? Or if you’ve prepped, what exactly have you done so far? Should i be researching nurseries already?! I am feeling like a duck out of water right now and need either someone to calm me down or to give me a list of priorities 🙈 thanks! From one overwhelmed mumma-to-be x

I’ve bought a handful of things or picked up things from fb marketplace while they were there! I’m exactly the same as you, bit overwhelmed by it all! 🙈 my friends advised me to look at nurseries from 20 weeks but I suppose there’s no right or wrong time to buy things! Xx

@Victoria thanks! What kind of bits have you bought? Big bits or little bits? I need to research things but even that is overwhelming (ie. Prams!)

I’ve booked an appointment at John Lewis for prams/car seats/wraps as I find this a complete minefield!! It’s unlikely we’ll buy one from there but it’ll give an idea of what ones I like!! I got a Moses basket (will buy a new mattress!) & bouncer from fb marketplace. & got a changing mat from Aldi baby event. 🙈 A few outfits gifted from my mum & that’s it!! Xx

This is my second child and I wasn’t very organised with my first, the next2me was built while I was in labour😂 I think do what ever feels right! I didn’t look at childcare for my son until he was born and he went at 5 month old so thinks would work out even if your really un organised like me😂😂x

I’m in exactly the same boat! First time, and not really done anything! I bought two books on the recommendation of a friend, haven’t read them. I have no baby clothes, no nursery furniture….nothing! I’m just waiting until I’m further along, I don’t feel like I have the brain space to be thinking about everything for the next 6 months…I read Ellie Taylor’s book quite early on (my child and other mistakes) and she did something similar, just blasted through a list later on!

I don’t think I started ANY prep till about 25-30 weeks with my first baby. She was only born 9 months ago yet it feels like forever ago hahaha. I’d go easy on yourself honestly you do have lots of time left and it helps the last trimester go quicker if you have things to keep you busy rather than doing it all now🤣 obviously keep your eyes out for good deals on prams and cots and car seats etc but as far as clothes go I wouldn’t go overboard, I did and I found it so overwhelming at the beginning trying to decide what to put on her every day that it became a meltdown point🤣🤣 post partum hormones are wild, stick to easy outfits and nothing too precious for 0-3. Make sure you don’t forget yourself, get your maternity pads in and all that stuff but genuinely you could sit on boots/ Amazon and order it all to your door next day delivery so just chill out and enjoy your pregnancy. things are about to get wild haha just enjoy this period and don’t stress just yet you’ve got so much time x

I'm dying to start buying things but everyone keeps telling me to wait until around the 7th month! For maternity classes speak with your midwife asap as there's usually a waiting list and you should start them around the 28th week (for both you and partner). The only thing I have is a pair of baby socks that my MIL got us but nothing else! I do have my IKEA app basket full of things though 😂

I've done nothing except bought and read a pregnancy book! Pregnancy is super long so there's plenty of time ❤️

My husband has bought a next to me from his sister and my sister has bought me an outfit with matching socks and hat for baby but that’s all

I’m waiting for Black Friday to get big things x

I've done nothing 😂 this is my second so I guess I'll end up thinking about it as we get into autumn 🤰🏼

I’m 14 weeks and haven’t bought a thing. I think I’m more anxious with having previous miscarried. I keep telling myself i will buy in the future 🤣❤️ x

I wouldn’t worry yet, I waited until viability at 24 weeks before I bought anything substantial like nursery furniture etc. You have more time than you think. I decorated the nursery around 30 weeks. And tbh I wish I hadn’t bought so many clothes before baby was here cause it’s a fun thing to do to keep yourself awake during night feeds😅😅

And definitely wait for Black Friday to buy any big stuff like next to me, baby monitor, pram etc they have really good deals! Just shop around to get an idea of what you like and start making a list x

I've done nothing 😂 this is my second so I guess I'll end up thinking about it as we get into autumn 🤰🏼

I wouldn’t worry about purchases yet, especially the small items as they are easy to do closer to the end of your pregnancy. Focus on the bigger purchases sooner and consider if you need to spread the cost across several pay check months as it does add up quickly! Market place is great. I wouldn’t recommend for car seat or mattress for safety reasons ☺️ For my first pregnancy I found that online there are lots of baby checklists which itemised everything you need (as well as nice to have items). I found those helpful to put together my own list. But all of this can definitely wait. I didn’t start till about 20 weeks. And I collected everything slowly. Also consider Black Friday sales and do your research before then if you want to make the most of the savings. I would say the only thing to definitely look into sooner rather than later are nurseries as it is very area dependant how strong the demand is. Wait lists can be crazy and you don’t want to miss out. Good luck you got this 🤩

@Katie ❤️ completely get that

I haven’t bought anything, but to help me feel in control (also my first baby) i made a list of things I need to buy and do. Also I scheduled nursery visits after finding out many of them have waiting lists that are 12 months long 🤯

I’m 13 weeks and not really done anything! Don’t worry! X
